The Godfather Blackhand Edition (Wii) / The Don's Edition (PS3)

Well folks EA has announced 2 more unique editions of The Godfather for the Wii and PS3. The Godfather first came out on the PS2, PC, and XBOX last March, then released last September on the XBOX 360 with graphical enhancements, new missions, and achievements that really made it the defenitive version.

Now EA is releasing the same game again, but with even more exclusive content for the Wii and PS3. For those that have not played this game yet, I highly recommend picking it up on which ever console you own. It's a very fun game with it's flaws of course.

    The Godfather Blackhand Edition Interview
We shake down EA producer Joel Wade in this exclusive Wii-specific interview. No wise guys allowed.

    The Godfather: The Don's Edition (PS3) Preview:http://ps3.ign.com/articles/754/754646p1.html

Today, Electronic Arts finally announced two new versions of its Godfather game: The Godfather The Don's Edition for PS3 and The Godfather: Blackhand Edition for Nintendo's Wii. While both games are based off of the previously released The Godfather game for PS2/Xbox/360, each game offers up an entirely new experience. The Godfather The Don's Edition includes The Corleone Expansion Pack complete with new gameplay and missions, while The Godfather Blackhand Edition makes use of the Wiimote's unique capabilities to provide an enhanced combat experience.

Both games offer games entirely new ways to climb the mafia ladder from Soldier to Don as you wrench control of the New York underground from your mobster rivals. Players can choose from either the Enforcer or Operator paths, each with its own unique perks and abilities. The Don's Edition also includes the new Shipyard and Rail yard transportation hubs for gamer to explore and ultimately dominate.

The Godfather The Don's Edition takes advantage of the motion-sensing capabilities of the Sixaxis controller for the PS3. Gamers must wrestle with their controllers in order to execute hand-to-hand combat maneuvers in the game. The Godfther Blackhand Edition further expands on this idea by offering gamers full Blackhand Control. Players must make real life gestures with the Wiimote and the Nunchuck to beat down on the opposition, or point directly at the screen for pinpoint firearms accuracy.

Developed by EA Redwood Shores, both new versions of the Godfather will be released this March.

Awesome. I commend EA for backing the Wii as much as they have. As much as I dislike the company, they will play a huge factor into the Wii's overall success.

I'm not getting neither version. I already have the XBOX 360 version that I'm about 13 hours in and to make things worse, I had played the XBOX and PS2 version back in March putting in about 10 hours on the xbx and 3 hours in the PS2 at the time. I'm to the point where I don't want to start all over again for the 4th time. I know you guys won't believe me, but there is just no way I'm starting over.......to much of a pain in the *** getting through some missions.

Personally, If your trying to decided I would go with the PS3 version since they took the 360 version and added more missions too it. The Wii version is going to be the XBOX version and just use the Wii controls. Graphically, EA did a good job adding plenty of detail to the game for 360.

Could Candy really be telling the truth? Probably won't pick it up since I'm not that interested in The Godfather and I don't have a PS3 for the version with all the extras.

I am telling the truth, I want to finish the game one of these years and being in around 13 hours right now with the 360 version, I'm not starting all over again. LOL!

The Wii joint sound like it would be a pain. I want to get this game but I'm waiting until the price reduces seeing that I'm a CAG and I don't think that I have time for it. I just picked up the GTA Trilogy and I haven't even busted that joint open yet. So many games I need to start on. Definitely going to pick it up. Did they add any missions to the Godfather for the 360? I'm kind of mad that they added more stuff into the PS3 like that. Oh well though.

Re: The Godfather Blackhand Edition (Wii) / The Don's Edition (PS3)

New Article on the new additions.

The Don's Edition for the PS3 will make use of the SIXAXIS' motion sensing functionality for use with interrogations and some melee combat. If someone is on their knees, you just pull the controller in an upwards manner to lift them off the ground. Moving the controller from side to side will yank them around, and pushing it forward and then releasing the grab buttons will shove them away. The rest of the controls are as we've seen in past versions of the game - steering and general movement is done with the analog sticks.

EA looks to have not only added some new features to The Godfather for these releases, but tweaked some old mechanics as well for easier play. For example, while you're still able to cycle through weapons one-by-one, a quick-select wheel has been implemented that works something like what you'd find in Ratchet & Clank.or Trauma Center. As well, the skill tree has been expanded a great deal to encompass Enforcer and Operator branches. Essentially, these give you more control over various upgrades to your character while also providing more specific bonuses, like the ability to heal faster or call in a hit squad faster.

Speaking of the hit squad, that's one of the cooler new elements that we saw on display. While you're still able to hire someone to stick with you on a mission, you're now able to call in the Corleone hit squad, a group of four men that come to your assistance and lay waste to anyone around you. They'll stick with you for a while, allowing you to take a small army into a mission to take down a rival family.

Similarly, the cops can now also fight for you. You can bribe them in the same way that you could before, where they'll look the other way while you take over an establishment, but you can now pay the entire police force to take to the streets and help you take out a rival family. Combined with the hit squad, you're able to take exponentially more help with you on a mission than before.

A series of new environments will also make their way into the game. Rooftop areas will now be rather common, with plenty of shootouts taking place high above the city. A couple new transportation hubs will find their way into the games as well, namely a train station and a shipyard. Taking these over will earn you a lot more loot than a barber shop or something similar, making them prime targets on your way to the top.

Lastly, the variety in The Godfather has been greatly expanded for the Wii and PS3 versions of the game. Each family will now have their own unique compound, unlike before where they were essentially copies of each other. More pedestrians and vehicles will fill the roads and sidewalks in the game, and more unique models for each will help spice things up. Oh, and speaking of cars, you'll now be able to take them and their passengers out with the new car bombs, one of the unlockable skills you can earn. Cool stuff.
