Once again....my joy with Wal-Mart:

Go to the gaming or music aisle in your local Wal-Mart. They're all concerned about their 'image' so they won't sell you an AO-rated game or a CD with explicit lyrics because they might "influence the youth with violence or foul language".

HOWEVER...

Go one aisle over and you can buy movies full of swearing, gunfights, sex, nudity, and other "bad" things.

Go one aisle over the other direction and you can BUY GUNS and AMMO!!!

If I, as a consumer, am assumed to be able to make correct purchasing decisions of movies and guns, why am I not given that same option on games and CDs?!?!?!? It's just dumb....

I see your point about the music and movies, but I'm not sure putting the guns and ammo in that category fits, unless the gun prices has the Wal-Mart signature happy face with a headshot and blood trickling down his face and he is gasping his final words.."Always"

But back on the Manhunt thing. I think this game is where I draw the line. I guess to each his own, but for me, it's too much.

Its censorship if they ban it outright as the UK and Ireland is doing. The US won't ban it outright. Some stores won't sell it but we can still buy it and choose to play.

What's stopping the UK and Ireland boards from destroying artistic merit and starting to ban any games that are violent or sexual?

it's not censorship when the company submits their game for a rating and they get AO. Just because it is rated AO doesn't mean that you're prohibited from buying it. However, it is up to each of the major retailers to decide if they will carry it. Walmart doesn't carry porn and dildos, but you can easily find those at other places.

The bottom line is, if Rockstar releases the game at the AO rating, you'll still be able to buy it somewhere if you want it. That's not censorship.

it's not censorship when the company submits their game for a rating and they get AO. Just because it is rated AO doesn't mean that you're prohibited from buying it, it is however up to each of the major retailers to decide if they will carry it. The argument that Walmart still sells unrated DVD's and the sopranos, but not violent games and unedited cd's doesn't have merit either. Even the worst DVD Walmart sells was probably only shot as a Rated R movie, and they tacked on some cut out footage in the specials to make it unrated. Sopranos is also a mainstream HBO show, far from horrible. Manhunt 2 is basically a murder simulation with a story, so it deserves the rating and people that want to play it can probably still get it, unless you're a 10 year old kid.

If they continue to oppress the videogame players of England, they will eventually want to leave their country.

They will charter a boat and sail to America just like the Pilgrims. Then they will take over after we have been wiped out because they gave us blankets with small pox in them.

Stupid...I have no problem with them selling games you have to show ID to get. I wouldn't want 10 year olds to get their hands on Manhunt 2 without parental supervision (maybe not even then), but it's just like movies. Sell them to adults and it's fine...kids can't buy rated R movies anyways.

I would think Rockstar would just edit it. It would cost them too much to go through the process of making a complete game only to scrap it at the last minute because of a rating. I don't even know why it needs to be AO, the first one was brutal enough and had an M rating, what do they really need to put in this one that makes it AO?
