Re: Star Wars: Force Unleashed (360/PS3)

Vanity Fair website of all places has a really good preview up.

The Dark Lord of the Sith is on Piper's screen, his black cape billowing, his death's-head helmet gleaming in the computer-generated sunlight. Piper guides Vader forward using the game controller and eventually arrives at a narrow rope bridge of lashed-together logs. As the Wookiees begin to charge across the bridge, Piper mashes buttons and summons up a ball of Force energy that, in a nice artistic touch, withers the plant life beneath Vader's boots. Then, pushing another button, he hurls that energy at the furry, fanged Wookiees. A bunch of them go flying off into space, causing the D.M.M.-enabled bridge to start rippling like a water bed. This sends more Euphoria-infused Wookiees toppling over the sides while those that remain struggle to regain their balance. They are only prolonging the inevitable. Using a more personal form of the Force, Vader hoists a struggling Wookiee into the air and dashes him against a wooden support beam, which cracks and splinters with remarkable authenticity. As another warrior is lifted, he grabs on to one of the remaining beams and hangs on for dear life, but Vader dislodges the wooden buttress and hurls it, with the Wookiee still attached, over the bridge.

Awesome find, Flawless!!!! Playing a level as Vader? Sweeeeettt!!!
It sounds like LucasArts has really put the work in on this one. I'm pretty sure this game is going to be a day 1 purchase.

This game looks really cool. I hope it lives up to the hype and I hope there is a demo for it as well.

                Team Xbox GDC Update

It’s apparent that LucasArts didn’t want to give too much of the story elements away, but it was crystal that making the anti-hero evil and the settings familiar will have a lot to do with how Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is played. A concept of redemption was alluded to by LucasArts, but all that we can really deduce at this juncture is that a right-hand-man of Vader’s has no qualms about what perishes (in a T-rated manner, however) in his wake, nor how said wake will affect familiar SW Universe environments.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Information from PTOM April 2008

The latest issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine (April edition) has a cover feature for LucasArts' upcoming game, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Here is the information:
                  • Controls
                    o Force Jump - X
                    o Force Push - O
                    o Lightsaber - Square
                    o Force Grip - R2
                  • Game uses 3 physics engines (Euphoria engine, Havok engine, and DMM engine).
                  • Timed button presses do more damage than button mashing.
                  • Takes place between Episode 3 and 4.
                  • Huge plot twists for the entire series.
                  • Camera follows enemy bodies when spectacular moves are done.
                  • Force powers take more force the stronger they are but are usable with any amount for desperate attacks.
                  • You can grab flying TIE fighters and toss them into stormtroopers.
                  • Blocking lasers is automatic, but pressing L2 increases chance of blocking and reflecting.
                  • After completing missions you get points to upgrade powers and unlock new combos and skills.
                  • Force talents are separate and are used to upgrade health, energy, deflection chance, and lightsaber damage.
                  • Exploration is encouraged by finding holocrons. Sith holocrons, grant powerups, and Jedi holocrons unlock new costumes, lightsaber hilts, and crystals.
                  • Enemies can grab onto things like railings to stop your force grip.

Nothing about multiplayer has been revealed. I think IGN lists this as a single player game, but multiplayer hasn't been ruled out, as far as I know.
