I then thought "cool" I'll be able to get a decent trade value.....I take my copy to the desk, tell the clerk "I wanna see what I can get for this"
He then proceeds to scan it...then to my utter disbelief he says it's worth $15.00!
I said 15.00? How in thee hell can you say that when you have a used copy for 54.99? The clerk then goes on some bs rant about the game not being very popular,to which I told him it must be somewhat popular if you're trying to sell a used copy for 54.99.
This was the last straw for me and these places...I took my game and told him "you guy's are a f'n ripoff" and left.
    I couldn't believe that..a 40 mark-up

When I was browsing through their horribly overpriced used games last weekend, they were selling the burger king games, for like $6 each. They also had the zelda promo for the gamecube that had ocarina of time on it for $20 something.

they sell games they aren't supposed to resell...lol.

Thats exactly what happened to me, I was in EB and I heard him on the phone saying Did you pre order the game? Must of said yes b/c he was like Well thats great b/c we have your game right now waiting on you and You will be one of the lucky one's to get the game today.

Then I say can I get it, and before he asked I said nope I didnt pre order it and I dont want the Warranty , He goes allright and just pulls it out of a box with prob 50 games inside of it. Then Boom will you pre order Halo or Grand Theft Auto, Geez.

I've never not seen a game for sell at EB or Gamestop the day they came out, I guess Pre order Guarentees you the game but all you have to do is go to the store and it Guarentees you the game I believe.

EB is the reason I usually go to local video game stores to buy stuff. They barely give out any money on trades then they mark up the price to almost retail level.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Halo 2 didn't sell out at my walmart when it came out. Thus, I see no reason to ever preorder anything.

Its too bad that Boston doesn't have any local game stores. I avoid gamestop.

There are no "mom and pop" video game stores in Dallas anymore, and I hate it. The minute you walk into a GS/EB, especially since the merger, they constantly talk down certain games and try to force you to buy other games, (mainly madden). I even had a store mananger give me a free pre order for madden when I bought MLB 2k7. It like when you tell them I am not getting madden, but All pro 2k8 instead, you have insulted them to the depths of their soul. Crazy.

                Re: Attn: Game Store Employees

The EBs here in Australia allow a 7-day trial on any console game where buyers can return the game within a week if they're "not satisfied."

Of course that leads to alot of people buying a game at full price, finishing it off within the week and then returning for a full refund/store credit while EB re-sell it again for full price because it's still considered a new game. This 'rental' scheme has prolly gotten worse too as a result of people using it just to get easy Achievement points for 360 games.

Which is why i only use EB for pre-orders, cos its the only way to guarantee a sealed copy. Plus there trade-in system makes it alot more convenient to get rid of unwanted older generation games.

^^^^ I agree about the sealer machine. I was at a local Gamestop around Christmas and was behind a woman buying a used game for her child when the employee ringing her up actually offered to re-shrink wrap it for her so it would look like new. This made me start to wonder how many used "NEW" games I've purchased there.

The two guys have four copies, of which three have already been opened. I ask for the unopened one, but that was for a pre-order pickup. I then take one of the opened ones (it DID just come in today) and get home and see that the disc has a scratch. It plays, but why the **** did they have to open THREE COPIES! One for the shelf box, I get it...but two more? One the day of release!

                      What gives?
LMAO! Johnny, I can't tell you how much this irks me. I'm 32 years old and I love it when some 17 year old punk tries to sell me on some bulls**t.

                      True story:

I was at EB one day last year trying to get a NEW copy of Call of Duty 2. ( I always demand a new copy of any video game, I just don't buy used.) The kid behind the counter promptly asks ME to grab the case from the shelf and then he proceeds to grab the game from the drawer from which the game was NOT EVEN IN A SLEEVE!!!!!

So I say, "I would actually like an brand new, unopened copy if you have one."

LOL, This kid starts to get b*tchy!!! He actually started an argument with me!! I thought I was going to reach over the counter and smash his melon through the glass...LOL.

To utexas, you couldn't be more spot on with that..LOL. If I don't reserve a copy of something, I feel crazy guilty walking out of there.

LOL on the preordering stories. This always happens when I go into Gamestop and I love the way they guilt trip the hell out of you for having the audacity to come in off the street and expect to buy a popular game that you didn't preorder. And god forbid you actually ask about the availability of anything they don't have. "It's coming out in December 2012....do you want to preorder it now?"

One time I called my local EB to see if a game I wanted had come in that day.

Me: "Hey, do you have ____?"
EB: "I'm not sure - did you preorder it?"
                        Me: "No."
EB: (without hesitation) "Yeah, we have it."
                        Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.
Dash: [muttering] Which is another way of saying no one is.
