Re: Gaming Business - Take Two Posts Massive Losses

Great points that I'm seeing here. Love the conversation guys. One thing that really ticked me off is that they didn't push for a nice presentation in the XBOX and PS2 sports titles. There is a lot wrong with that company it seems. At first, I thought they were just getting picked on because of the hot coffee mod that arose. Now, I'm just realizing that they really aren't using all their resources wisely.

One thing that I do think they're doing is setting up for a stronghold in the future. They are focusing on the PS3 and XBOX 360. I'm not quite sure how big the profit will be on either system as compared to the PS2 and XBOX, but I think that they're really looking a little further ahead than we all are. Might have to lose some money to make some money. They sure aren't managing right though. I hope that they start making wiser decisions with their game choices and all. I also hope that they don't pull the plu on any of the 2K sports franchises that I play. I'd hate to sell all my games and stuff so quick.

Also, I havent seen a ton of EA commercials on network TV either. Why? Because network TV are way more expensive than cable tv.
Just saw a MLB 2k7 commercial on Abc during the Suns/ Lakers game. I dont know how people can say they dont market.

Great point. I have seen a lot of commercials advertising NBA 2K7 and MLB 2K7. Probably not as many as I've seen for NBA Live or March Madness but enough for people to know that the game is out.

2K put all their eggs in one basket and that has been one thing that really hurt them. If anything, they should also have been focusing on the PS2 since that is where the money is at. I don't know if they should even cut some of the filler titles and just concentrate on the larger titles. If anyone buys Take Two or 2KSports.......I would hope for Microsoft, because if EA bought them than as gamers we are screwed.

Seriously, I'm glad they don't focus on PS2 or Xbox...more time to focus on Next-Gen and giving us better advances in technology. PS2 is outdated and has had their 5 to 6 years of time. What more can you do with that crappy system. You can only push it so far.

360 and PS3 are new to the hill, and its time to push them for the next 5 to 6 years and make it main focus.

            Just my 2 pennies.

PS2 might be outdated man, but they have a very large user base that needs to be taken advantage of. I think that 2K focusing on the next gen consoles is good for them when it comes to long term planning......but I guess short term planning is what hurts here.

PS2 is not a crappy system from a gameplay standpoint. If were talking about hardware, than yes the first few years the system was poorly built. I won't forget what a hornball you were being in the summer/fall of last year with PS2's releases, now your signing a different tune. We know the hardware is outdated, but that happens with all technology.

It's kind of exciting to see how this company is indeed focusing on the next-gen consoles. I was reading this morning how Rockstar has signed an agreement with the Natural Motion people to incorporate that technology in their games, I think BioShock is looking excellent, and I'm pretty impressed with what 2K Sports has done with their next-gen games.

When you look at the company without considering their current profit/loss situation, they really are showing us their eyes are on the future of gaming. This year was difficult for them, mainly because their focus was on two systems (360, PS3). Will this year's loss turn into next-year's gain? I think so. One thing's for certain, we won't be seeing 2K Sports selling their games for 19.99.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.
