    Re: Take Two's pending sale

For the first time, I'm concerned about the release of this game. Is it coincidence that the Game Informer article was not included in April's edition because 2K asked them not to? And is the reson they were asked not to is to wait for the results of this shareholders meeting?

The next month or so is going to reveal what's up with Take Two and thereby show us what will happen with this game.

Of course, if Ubisoft took over 2K Sports, I'd be a happy camper.

However, I still see Take Two keeping Rockstar, 2K games and 2K Sports.

Dq, I just made a similar post a few threads down. I am a bit concerned that we may never see this game now.

As for potential buyers, the list is long. Game publishers UbiSoft and Activision (Charts) have reportedly explored a possible bid. Elevation Partners, the venture capital group whose members include U2 front man Bono, is a possibility as well. And Rupert Murdoch's News Corp (Charts). has also been mentioned regularly as a possible suitor.
        Bono, freakin sweet

The old saying..."where's there smoke, there's fire" really explains this whole situation. It all started weeks back when some guy posted his thoughts (on gamespot, i think??) and we are getting more and more news pointing to what he said was right.

The same exact thing happened when EA bought the NFL liscense. It was all just, "yeah whatever", "not gonna happen", then BAM. We are here today.

This time i'm going to expect the worst and assume that all 2ksports game are in trouble.

          Until I hear otherwise.

I guess it all has to do with whether or not 2K Sports remains in tact or not. If Take Two holds on to them, all is well. If not, and it all quickly happens, we may not see the game.

It just seems odd to me that Take Two would let go of 2K Sports, especially after the great season NBA 2K7 had. They can't get much for it, so that leaves an opportunity for EA. It also give Ubisoft an opportunity.

Seems like the only thing the current board at Take 2 can do is sell so atleast they get something before they get ousted. I really hope they dont sell, or if they do atleast let 2k Sports go on its own. Being a PS3 owner I wouldnt want 2k Sports to become 360 exclusive and being a sports fan I wouldnt want to see it gobbled up by EA.

Even if EA bought Take Two, the sale wouldn't most likely be completed for a few months to the end of the year correct? There still might be a chance that APF2K8 releaeses this year.

I really don't want EA buying Take Two or even shares. Take Two can refuse EA from purchasing them correct? Hopefully they do refuse.

It would be a shame if your assumption is accurate.

You know.....I truly believe that the Devs working on the NBA2k series will nail the NBA game almost to a tee within the next 2 years if they have the opportunity to do so.

And definately by the end of the 360/PS3 life cycle, those guys will be awful close to capturing the NBA game IMO.

The quantum leaps they have made to that series, in just 2 years with Rob Jones and Beluba on board is very impressive.

It would be a shame if the 2k series gets discontinued I really like the direction of their games.

                    Re: Take Two's pending sale

This issue, like any financial sale, is far more complicated than it appears at the surface. There's an understandable crisis in leadership at Take Two but I don't think this necessarily means that the end of the world is coming- the CEO hasn't really impressed me with his management of a company with some great IPs.

There is one great aggressive action they're taking with Jack Thompson (that lawyer in FL that always files some sort of failed injunction against them after GTA releases)- they are legally preventing him from filing such a suit and thus saving potentially millions. Would a company on the brink of being sold even bother with it? I doubt it. Atleast that indicates that Rockstar North might be safe.

Either way, when the shareholders get together in a few days, we'll hear. Until then, I think its best not to think about this too much or you'll all go insane. We just don't know enough to make any reasonable predictions- its all rampant speculation right now.

These shareholders aren't stupid- as the article concludes

Of course, it's impossible to know what the shareholder group has in mind should it assume control of the board. It's entirely possible the group will keep the company intact and work to rebuild it.

If the price is right you can waive bye bye to Take Two and 2kgames. You know how it works in the business world, money is always the deciding factor.

And let's be honest, it's not a question of if EA will purchase Take Two. It's a question of whether or not EA feels the NEED to purchase the company and essentially put a strangle hold on the sports gaming industry.

If it's the latter, you can pretty much believe that EA will purchase Take Two and their catalog of games by out bidding the competition.

MS purchasing 2K would be huge. Sony still would have two choices of sports games though. Theirs and EA.

TT would lose more money if the game isn't released. The game is a few months from release and most of the work is already done. I am not worried about football but the gaming industry as a whole.

EA will ruin the sports gaming industry by doing what the major labels in music do - focus on bottom line and not quality. I agree with this post because the whole industry suffers when a creative group like Take 2 gets trumped for the almighty dollar.

They need to just go back to Sega, maybe it will show for Sega's ignorance for selling them in the first place. And for releasing that lame Sonic game....

Sega needs more titles to boost their company, and have the 2k series back could help them. They do good marketing and thats what 2ksports needs...
