i'm not business and stock savvy but.. why can't they wait till the release of GTA IV to make any drastic changes? I'm sure that's gonna sell a yachtload of games... or will that not be enough??...

They need to just go back to Sega, maybe it will show for Sega's ignorance for selling them in the first place. And for releasing that lame Sonic game....

Sega needs more titles to boost their company, and have the 2k series back could help them. They do good marketing and thats what 2ksports needs...

Sega and T2 back again? I like it.

This is going to be like a nervous wait now to see who comes out of left field and just buys it.

Whoever buys them would get the MLB license as well right? Is that transferable once the original company is sold?

More like "Take Two's POSSIBLE sale", as we won't know how this power struggle between shareholders and the CEO works out until the end of March.

It sucks though. You'd prefer a united and focused company to be supporting the 2K Sports brand, to give APF 2K8 the best chance of success.

If EA moves in, it means the end of competitive sports gaming. Ubisoft or another rival third party developer would be okay. Competition is critical to better sports games, even most of the EA fans understand that.

A few, like djordan, will take whatever crap EA puts on a disk and hands to them. The rest want better effort from EA.

At this point, I guess we wait and see how things pan out. I'll admit, I was hoping MS would look to grab Take Two and get an exclusive on the GTA games, along with an instant sports division.


One part of the article I found encouraging:

The shareholders want better management of the company, which I understand. This could work out for the best for 2K Sports. Is the glass half-empty, or half-full?

At this point Im hoping Take Two keeps Rockstar, 2K games and 2K Sports, or Ubisoft takes 2K Sports.

If Take Two gets bought out completely and they lose GTA and 2K Sports to EA, we are in for one crappy next-gen experience.

Imagine what EA would do to GTA.

Guys let's not get things confused here. Take-2 is a Publisher just like EA, Ubisoft, Activision ect.etc. If they ever were to sell, they would be selling off the developer's within the TAKE-2 Portfolio, Rockstar, Visual Concepts & any other developer's which Take-2 owns.

Secondly, this news has been out for a while already, in reference to the Shareholder Revolt. This doesn't mean the company will be put up for sale. Right now it's all speculation until the end of the month

This is just a power struggle between current management and stockholders group. Since management is getting kicked out they are throwing around empty threats of selling the company.

I wouldnt want Ubisoft buying 2k when EA owns a good portion of the company.

As long as the quality of the games coming from this company doesnt decline, and the games still get released Im good.

Well, first off, Greg Thomas, President of Visual Concepts would never work for EA Sports unless he was given the reigns. And who knows if he would after that. I'm not sure if anyone realises it, but he is highly regarded among developers as being extremely innovative and always pushing the envelope for creativity and hardwork. In fact, he was recently listed by Next-Gen Biz for being one of the key players in the future of gaming.

So, if EA does in fact buy 2K Sports, expect nothing of 2K crossing over to EA. If you need proof, look at what they did with ESPN.

Finally, I don't see Take Two giving up 2K Sports unless there is a large bid put out for them. They have the MLB license, and I think that's still something Take Two wants to work with. 2K Sports hasn't been under Take Two for too long, and given the recent success of NBA 2K7, and that of MLB 2K7, I think they'll keep them on board to explore future profits.

Of course, that's all opinion.

Imagine what EA would do to GTA.

That one is easy.

GTA 08.

GTA 09, with microtransactions for new outfits, weapons, etc.

GTA 10, with "updated" gang rosters!

You get the idea. EA would milk it for 3-4 years till everyone was sick of GTA, then buy out the next "big game" and do the same. Rinse. Repeat.
