How many "wargamers" do we have on this site?

    I was just curious.

I started playing wargames back in 1993, with my first being Star Wars Miniatures Battles. I was actually looking at comics in a local shop in Birmingham and saw these guys playing this game on a table with all of these really cool painted troops and terrain and immediately got hooked on it.

Went on to play Warhammer and Warhammer 40k as well as building my own 15mm Prussian army (Yorck's Corps) for Napoleonics.

I haven't played in years but from age 15 until about 20 I was a pretty avid gamer and still pop into a hobby shop from time to time to look around.

Are there any other tabletop wargamers roaming the OS boards?

With the age of high tech Videogames and Computer graphics, I'm sure they are a dying breed.

I never got into the figurines and wargames like that, but I did love playing Risk.

I also enjoyed a good game of Sorry from time to time. Sorry is the wargame to end all wargames!
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Back in the late 90's I got into wargames although I was never that good at them lol. I loved SSI's Panzer General series and the Operational Art of War Series which is considered by armchair Generals to be the best tactical war game ever created.

I used to play that too.

But my game was the ultimate hardcore Grognard game. Advanced Squad Leader (ASL). It's easier passing the BAR exam than learning how to play ASL.

I still play from time to time, it's very, very, deep.

Closest I got to playing a board game of the same ilk as Warhammer is either Risk or DOOM: The Boardgame (a board game based off the 2004 PC game Doom 3), both of which are fun games themselves.

Way back (late 70's) I used to play the Avalon Hill war games, like, Blitzkrieg, Panzerblitz, Anzio, Russian Campaign, Gettysburg, 1776, etc. And the SSI games too. I still have all those games in my attic.

The Operational Art of War games on the PC are just like those old war games.

My 2 favorites, Stratego and Risk. Stratego was an absolute blast to play, Risk was as well.

I used to play stratego all the time. I don't know if I knew all the rules but I remember it was fun.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

I love playing Silent War http://www.compassgames.com/silent_war.htm

It's a solo board game recreating the submarine war in the pacific during ww2. An excellent game for anyone interested in USA ww2 subs.

I used to play axis and allies and it's many variants and mods many years ago in the 90's.

I've got a big collection- probably up around 100 or so, but most of them are in storage in my father's basement. At the moment I've got about six or seven games that I play pretty regularly, mostly GMT stuff, some MMP, a bit of the old AH games (Breakout Normandy and Turning Point Stalingrad, and of course Up Front).

Most of my gaming gets done on Vassal at this point, as I don't have the room to keep a map out for weeks at atime.

                          40k fo life.

When I was in the military in the early 90's, a squad buddy of mine played 40k. A full table of his Space Marines looked pretty cool but the hobby seemed too tedious for me. 2 years ago, I ran into a co-worker while he was looking through a WD mag and it looked pretty interesting. After flipping through a couple issues, curiosity got the better of me and I copped a few models. After I painted them I was hooked...really scratches the creative itch I thought I left in highschool.

Do you have any pics of your Prussian army AA?

I used to be heavily into board wargaming, especially The Gamers Civil War Brigade series, Kevin Zucker's operational level Napoleonic series, and pretty much anything designed by Richard Berg. Sadly I haven't played in years, I just never seem to have the time these days.

I played the hell out of Avalon Hill, SPI and GDW board wargames when I was in middle school and high school, but that was in the late 70s and early 80s. Squad Leader, The Arab-Israeli Wars (PanzerBlitz variant), The Russian Campaign, Little Round Top (AH gamette), A House Divided, The Guns of August, Flight Leader and Victory in the Pacific were among my favorites.

                              Big fun, though!

                              Take care,
