Wow, make sure you turn on 5.1 in the options. The game defaults to 2 channel stereo. When you are on a roll and the crowd sings, they'll sing in the rear channels, sounds awesome.

Really? Would you be missing out on anything gameplay wise by using the GH guitars?Comment

One Guitar for Rock Band
Harmonix responds to concerns over PS3 compatibility.
November 20, 2007 - As many PS3 owners are learning, the Guitar Hero III guitar does not work with Rock Band. The game recognizes the guitar as a normal controller and won't allow you to use it to rock out. Harmonix has offered an official response to growing concerns that gamers can't use an alternate guitar to play Rock Band:
"Harmonix develops and bases all of our games, guitars and other peripherals on open standards established by platform manufacturers such as Microsoft and Sony. Rock Band is no exception and supports an open controller standard. Guitar controllers are like any other standard game controllers--the controller sends a signal back to the game depending on the buttons you push. If a third party game controller is based on open standards, then it should work with Rock Band as well. If certain controllers do not work with Rock Band, questions about those controllers should be directed to the peripheral manufacturer. In addition, we welcome any 3rd party software that wishes to support Rock Band guitars. If a 3rd party guitar / music game does not support the Rock Band guitar controller, questions regarding this should be directed to the game manufacturer."
Red Octane, the company that manufactures Guitar Hero's peripherals, has yet to offer IGN an explanation or official response. According to Harmonix, it's on Red Octane and publisher Activision. It would seem that unless these two can make nice (and realize that fans are the ones being punished), there will be no patch to remedy this situation.

Do I smell some possible lawsuit coming from any PS3 owners.....that the game false advertises a second guitar that isn't even availalbe. I can see some goofball doing that.Comment

Re: Harmonix's Rock Band now with Impressions
This game is so damn addicting, even though I suck at them. My right foot is killing me after using the kick pedal. Boy is the Metallica pack a pain in the *** on drums, except for Ride the Lightining.
Even my brother thought the new guitar was cheap looking and didn't like it that much, he still likes the Les Paul the best.
Now if I can get the damn mic to work properly. It turns on, but more than half the time no sound through it as the menu says its not connected even though it is and I have used the controller.Comment

With 4 people this game rocks. I have yet to open mass effects or choops2k8. Even singing, which I thought would be the worst, is a blast.www.simgamingnetwork.com Come join our leagues!

Re: Harmonix's Rock Band now with Impressions
The problem I run into with the drums is on a level like medium, there are beats missing but I naturally feel to hit the bass drum to hit those missing beats. That's where I mess up. If I go higher up, I can't keep up. If I stay at medium, there seems to be too much of a gap between what's being played and what's expected of me.
And speaking on an impressions note, I feel this soundtrack is miserable.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: Harmonix's Rock Band now with Impressions
So far the games pretty good and singing is surprisingly fun. I opened up the box today and didn't figure out you needed to use a regular controller to sign in the mic for like 20 minutes. The Bluest Skies

Re: Harmonix's Next Game Revealed...Rock Band
So me and my housemates have been playing this together for hours. I have been sick and I have a sore throat, so it only makes sense that I've been singing all that time. I'm not gonna be able to talk tomorrow
EDIT: Alright, I can barely talk anymore, but I'm still braving out the signing, even though I'm taking a break. Feels like my throat is bleeding, hah.Last edited by bjf1377; 11-21-2007, 12:41 AM.Comment

I'm in the same boat I haven't opened both of those yet and the singing is a blast but I finally got the drums down so I'm the drummer in my house.Comment

Re: Harmonix's Rock Band now with Impressions
It somewhat bugs me that the song selection out of the box is so weak (IMO). I love the game but found myself playing last night to see what other songs were available, and when I did, I got more frustrated. Then I read that the first DLC is out and I have to pay for it. Kinda sucks.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: Harmonix's Rock Band now with Impressions
This game is a total blast once you get the basic mechanics down of the instruments as a band....DUH!. We had so much fun with this last night. While my wife was out, my brother and I played......alternating on the drums/guitar/signing. Then when my wife got home she was doing the singing, we had a good time. I must have put in a good 5 hours in between playing SP & MP.......my kids were probably thinking what is up with this guy. LOL!
I think there might be something wrong with my USB hub when the mic and drums are connected. But when I just plug the mic into the 360 USB directly and then plug everything else into the USB hub, then turn on the controller everything works right. I might contact Harmonix about this to see if its the USB.Comment
