No. One of our main learnings from Oblivion was that this doesn't work. We still do it in some main quest situations where you are locked in and can't come and go. But the world is what it is. You start off in the world and there will be places which are too tough to deal with and some that are easy. So you will need to come back when you are tough. We may occasionally increase the weapon of an enemy but there will be none of that jarring experience in Oblivion where bandits suddenly have glass armour as opposed to leather because you're a [censored]. Raiders will be raiders whatever. It was also jarring in Oblivion when you go into an area and there was a skeleton. You come back later and it's a Dread Wraith and really tough to kill. You can now go to areas and be a [censored] and also go to areas where you are barely surviving. If you go away and get better skills and then come back the area will be as you left it and won't have got tougher.

I also was freaked out a little last night playing. The game can be freaky.

I also felt really alone and little frightened in the wasteland after coming out of the vault.

Anyone have any tips on lock picking? I broke all my pins!

How many hours are they saying the main story takes? I've really stayed away from everything about the game. Should be getting it in from GF in the next couple of days or so.

Quick spoiler right when you get out of the vault.

That first house you come to when you get out with that lady in it. I told her I was going to tell on her if she didn't give me bottle caps and she bought my lie and gave me 400. It was a good way to start! I made sure to put a lot of skill in speech and charisma.

I didn't even find that place.

Is there any relationship stuff in this?

The first place I came across was the school and the second was Big Town instead of Megaton. There was a girl there that seemed to like me and told me to come back to her/was all flirty even though I was playing as a girl. There's also an infinte EXP glitch in that place but I can't do it yet because I don't have the speech rating for it so I need to go back anyway.

I read somewhere that if you play straight story, beginning to end, it takes about 9 to 10 hours. I think it was in one of the previews. But there is so much stuff to do and get that it will take you much longer with all the side quests. BTW does anyone else got to the point where you dont want to go out at night? I am at that point. Lol.

I think it depends on your play style.

I did 5 hours last night, and I didn't accomplish much at all. I got the strategy guide and checked out the map. This game could take you forever if you wanted.

I'm hearing roughly 40-50 hours, up to 100 if you really take your time.

I'm guessing the only way to build weapons is to get the schematics for them and have a decent enough scientist/repair skill? Any one know for sure? I haven't really had a chance to go through the manual.

I think you have to have all the parts too.

Oh yeah good point. I got a bunch of things now that I'm sure I will eventually be able to put to use.

I think you just need the parts/schematics.

I was saving,doing bad stuff to see how it'd turn out then reloading. Killed the girl that has the rock-it launcher schematics and then cleared out the store inventory and I was able to make it without much skill there.

I'm actually excited to beat the game and play through again while focusing on different stats. FIRST game that I've ever been excited about playing all the way through again.
