    Thought's about Collectors Edition's

    Hey guys,
I was just wondering, what's your thoughts about the collectors editions of games?
The reason I ask is, I'm debating on trading in my Gears CE as I don't play it anymore, but if these things are REALLY getting rare,I don't have a problem keeping it.
I was just wondering everybody's thought.
People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.

Not rare, and a waste of money. I've bought one in my life, and that was Halo 2, and that was only because I got it early and it was the only copy they had.

I don't really think about how rare it is or it will become. If there's something I feel is worth paying the extra money, and I have the extra money, I'll go ahead and get it. Most of the time it's for the little concept art books, I enjoy those.

Same here. If it's something I like (Comics, coins-like Oblivion etc ) I will get. If it's just older versions of the game or just a making of type thing I get the regular.

I hate them! When I pre-ordered FFXII I originally went for the CE, and then when I picked it up, I wanted to trade down for the regular version...but they were sold out (how "convenient" of Gamestop to only stock the CE). Now it sticks out like a sore thumb on my shelf despite being a great game.

I am curious about the $10 more Halo 3 though, since one of the bonus discs is supposed to have a calibration tool, which the 360 needs (though watch, it will only be available on the "Legendary" edition).

A calibration tool? Just get Video Essentials and run it through the 360, or have your TV professionally calibrated (you live in a good area now).

                  Complete waste of money. Period.

As for their future "value" and appreciation, come on: It's a video game, not a Renoir.

Never in my life have I bought a "collector's edition" of a game. It just seemed like a way the company was trying to milk money out of me.

I got the collectors edition of Gears of War. But the store only had 2 GOW in stock and both were CE. Plus, it was at the same time I got my 360 and with the purchase of the system I got a $50 gift card, so I only paid $10 for GOW: CE. Other than that, I avoid CEs.

I don't think all collector's editions can be grouped together. Personally I liked the Gears CE because I found it interesting to hear the developer comments. And also liked the "Road to E3" semi-doc on the 2nd disk - gave a lot of insight to the give and take relationship between Epic and Microsoft, and the work a dev had to do to prepare for E3. I also liked the Halo 2 CE for the similar reasons. Something like the Madden CEs were wastes imo though. I didn't buy them but it was because of the content. Either way, I don't think they should be purchased because people think they will accrue in value or that they're rare because they aren't.
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Well with DVE, since I'm connected via component, the max resolution is 480p, which won't be correct for the HD games.

As for a professional calibration, I still have plans but I want to make sure I have a reliable TV first (had to cancel Chad B since my SXRD started having issues before he came out).

I buy them sometimes depending on what is in the package and the game. I bought the Halo 2 Collector's Edition, GoW Collector's Edition because it was same as normal and pre-ordered Halo 3 Legendary Edition.

That is pretty much for me.
