Yeah, I have that too. I played through most of the single player campaign, and really liked it. Been wanting to try out the multiplayer, but have never gotten around to it.

First RTS I ever played multiplayer was the original Command & Conquer. That was tons of fun. We'd play across the LAN in my dorm, and everyone who was playing would have their door open, so there was lots of shouting trash-talking through the hallways! I haven't seen much on C&C 3 yet, anyone played it?

Right now, I'm mostly playing The Show on PS3 (just picked it up yesterday), some occasional FSX multiplayer (horrible, horrible netcode), and me and some friends got IL-2 1946 recently. We had been playing IL-2 Fotgotten Battles and Pacific Fighters until this came out.

After reading this thread, and the Baldur's Gate 2 thread, I'm going to have to go through my old CDs and install some older games, it looks like.

Medieval 2 Total war is more risk and civilizations like than aoe3 and I think its a better, deeper game anyway. AoE3 was still fun though.

Yeah, the Total War games are bad ***. They're turn-based, though, as opposed to RTS games, even though they have RTS elements in the battles. Funny, though, that even though I'm a huge RTS fan, I hardly ever play the RTS battles in the Total War games. I enjoy the bigger strategic overview gameplay a whole lot more than the individual battles. At least in those games, I do.

That's exactly how I am with Medieval II. Unless it's a battle that I know I'm going to get screwed over by simming it, but I just sim and move on.

Thats how I got with Rome: Total War after awhile, I got so used to the combat system and due to some not so great AI I could win pretty much every battle on the hardest difficulty by just having my line hold and then get the cavalry behind the other line and with the way armies break and run it would be over in about 7 minutes at the most.

I'd like to check out AoE3 and Med II but I need a new comp first and I'm currently about 1000 short. I loved AoE1, but I hated the 50 unit cap. AoE2 really rocked, I played that one the most but liked the ancient feel better of AoE1.

Yea. Rome was ridiculously easy once you figured out the little secret to it. Thankfully I have not found Medieval II to be that easily manipulated..battlewise.

I was only able to pick up Medieval II when my old computer fried from a storm.

Not only being played 10 years after the original release and still going, its like football in America. TV coverage, players as celebrities wearing racing like jerseys and with crazy fans waving signs, screaming at every "spectacular" move they make.

It isn't just pretty dam good, it's GOAT.

i got AOE2 gold edition yesterday and played it for 4 hours straight. Its got me hooked on strategy games again. Im thinking of getting another game, but maybe turn based instead of RTS. I hear good things of Medievil total war 2, but I may get civilization.

I just got done playing a game in it, great game. I hate that my computer limits me to 4 player games because it gets so bogged down whenever I get in the mid-late stages of the game. I don't know how familiar you are with the series but I've played them all and it is by far the best. It gets quite addictive. This game is by far the deepest of all the Civ games and feels the most epic out of all of them.

I just bought Rise of Nations the other day before I had surgery and I love it. I may need to go get AOE to play on my laptop as well.

Yeah, best of the Civ series by far.

it says that the recommended is 1.8GHZ and my laptop is 1.6GHZ. is that going to be a problem. The minimum is 1.2.

Im sorry to dig this thread up but Im curious, what are the differences between AOE and Civilization? They seem that they may be similar but not sure what the differences are and am just getting interested in these type of games so I have very little information on them. My laptop is a 1.6 GHZ but it also has vista on it so Im not sure this would run all that well, if anyone has an idea that would be appreciated. Forgot to mention it has 1GB of ram, but I feel like I will be barely getting by on it, if all else fails I could put it on my desktop and for sure run it but I would rather use it on my laptop, thanks in advance.

AOE = Real Time Strategy (RTS)
Civ = Turn Based Strategy (TBS)

If your looking for the best of both worlds snag a copy of Rise of Nations Gold. I bought it for $9.99 at CC.
