Looking for some basic tips on how not to suck, and also how to hotkey. If anybody is obliged to help I'd be much appreciative.

To hotkey, select your units, hold ctrl, then press a number key. From then on hitting that # key will select those units.

w/o seeing you play, I'd guess your economy is at least part of the problem. Many people stop building workers too soon. You'll need about 1.5 workers per mineral patch. You'll also have to expand if you're not playing a map with infinite money. Another potential problem is you will need multiple unit producing structures (barracks, gateways, hatcheries, etc) as you won't be able to produce units fast enough if you don't.

Everybody says Terran is the easiest race to play and I disagree totally. I think protoss is easiest to play simply because defense is easier. Cannons provide air and ground defense as well as detection.

well I played a 4 humans vs. 3 CPUs online yesterday and checked out my stats afterwards. Economy was not a problem, I was actually second in that regard out of the four humans. It was definitely producing units, fell way behind there even though I had two barracks and four starports up pretty quickly.

Also, can I hotkey different bases so when I'm looking at something else on the map, I can quickly press a key and jump to my base or my teammate's bases?

If you're doing ok with your economy, then the rest will come with practice.

You can hotkey virtually anything, including buildings. I've never tried to hotkey an enemy base though, so not sure. You can hotkey a building, but if you want to jump to that buildings location, you'll have to double tap whatever hotkey you made that building. Same goes for units. Clicking a hotkey once will select the units/buildings, double tapping will center your view on them.

Reinstalling this. I wonder how bad I am now.

I'll try my hand at map-making.

Anyone still play SC online? I'm looking for some decent people to play with, as most people on battlenet keep doing cheap stuff (cannon rushes, dropshipping a siege tank on a cliff) and I'm getting a tad annoyed.

I am extremely decent  and always enjoy getting back into SC.

I use to play a bit with Kashanova as I remember. Would be fun to get a little OS Starcraft group together especially with SC 2 on the horizon.

Using XFire is always an easy way to get games going.

                      Starcraft II Beta system requirements

                      PC Minimum Requirements:
                      • Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1/Windows 7
                      • 2.2 Ghz Pentium IV or equivalent AMD Athlon processor
                      • 1 GB system RAM/1.5 GB for Vista and Windows 7
                      • 128 MB NVidia GeForce 6600 GT/ATI Radeon 9800 PRO video card
                      • 1024x768 minimum display resolution
                      • 4 GB free hard space (Beta)
                      • Broadband connection

Yep, it's Blizzard alright. Probably takes more to run at full spec, but just about anyone with a computer made in the last few years ought to be able to run that.

The closed beta has officially started too (posted on kotaku a few articles up from this one).

Didn't make it into the first batch of beta keys (figured I wouldn't). Fingers crossed for the next wave.

Anybody up for some original Starcraft?

hopefully you get in man, I would love to hear some impressions.

As for original Starcraft, I may be down in a couple weeks. Right now my schedule's kind of busy so the gaming time I do get I'm preferring to spend with Bioshock and Modern Warfare 2. If we were to play together, is there any way to play against two CPUs? I'm not nearly good enough to play online against other people.

Yeah, just keep working on that expansion while your main base gets ravaged...

This is pretty sweet, though. It's low quality, but at least I can see the action well enough.

Yeah you can play 2v2 cpu or any combination (3vs5 cpu being the ultimate challenge!)

PM if you are interested in playing.
