    Re: Starcraft II Officially Announced

The only thing I really thing they screwed up on was lack of co-op campaign. Other than that I love what they did. A dedicated bnet server to host all games instead of relying on iffy individual hosts.

A better matchmaking system to match you up with similar skilled players. Back in SC1 it was a pain when you entered into some random game and had to go /stats (name) to find out if you were facing a pro or not.

I just had an **** TvT game which lasted over an hour. We both kept attacking and stonewalling each other until finally he overran my forces. I made a couple of key tactical errors as at 2 different points I had golden counterattack opportunities (was 2/1 in food) but decided to bunker up instead. I'm getting much better with my APMs (I've doubled from 16-32 in the past week) and I'm getting my build order up and running quickly, but I still need to get a better sense of when to attack, and to definitely do better in building my walls as terran. I got hit with zergling and zealot rushes tonight and was completely incapabable of stopping them. It seems like my matches either take 30-40 minutes or less than 10 with no inbetween.

Thats the one thing that has always bothered me about MP starcraft, nobody wants to actually play a full game, everyone wants to mass rush zerglings, marines or zealots 10 mins in. The old group I had in the old battle.net days when we used to play alot of diablo 1 and SC:BW pretty much just did the 4 or 5 of us vs hard AI's, it was far more fun and we could actually take our time and tech up and get to actually use all the game's units rather than just the first on the tech tree that it seems most pvp games end up being.

Make sure to save your replay from a match, then watch it and select APM from the left pulldown menu. You'll se an average and a current APM, and the best way to find your average is to look at it after the entire replay has run its course.

APM is Actions Per Minute, or basically how fast you are at playing the game.

Thanks I knew it had to be somewhere in the replays.

The APMs on the replay screen are a tad misleading though I think. It seems every little move even if you don't do anything counts.

I still liked when I saw my average apm at 61 in one of my replays though. I'm 1/5 of a SC pro lol.

Lol, there was a user that posted E.P.I.C in back to back different Thread like 20 times so OS put it into the language filter.

I think there was an easy/medium/hard in the original. I remember the ai being pretty good a few times, though that may just have been when it was 1v7.
does anybody know how I can do this?

If there wasn't an option right there whenever you insert an AI opponent at the map start screen then I probably just remembered wrong. If that is the case then the easiest way to increase AI difficulty is to increase the number of opponents. Some will be better than others.

yes, but not in a regular melee game.

You have to go to the map editor and create a map and assign each AI a difficulty level then when you play the map it has to be a Use Map Settings map instead of melee.

For example if you wanted to play a 3v3 with one team being insane AI's then you'd have to go to the map editor and set three of the start locations to insane AI's and then when you create the map set it to UMS (use map settings) instead of melee.

Edit: Just to clarify something. When you go to the editor to create a map you can use one they've already made and just save it as a different name. So there would actually be very little editing to do. Just set the comp locations and set them to the AI you want.

Hmm...I'm looking at the SC1 editor and I don't see anything for cpu difficulty level, only for setting human or computer. Is the difficulty in some other place than Player/serttings menu?

On another SC1 note...I hear all the time about how people can't get it to work in Vista and Windows 7. I occasionally have times when the color bugs out on me, but the game runs fine. I just make sure I "run as administrator" and also run the program from its original location (not the shortcut). I rarely have the color issues when doing this.

Edit: Oh I see, it's in the AI scripts....

so basically I would edit, for example, New Gettysburg but just reset the start locations for the AIs and in the process change their difficulty level? Everything else would stay the same, such as mineral/gas locations, ramps, etc.?
