    Re: Starcraft II Officially Announced

Just finished the campaign last night. Pretty awesome although I wish there was more setup for the Heart of the Swarm expansion.

Now, time to practice on the AI and try to get some multiplayer going. Never played much SC1/Brood War online so I'm pretty sure I'll get crushed by just about anybody.

      Re: Starcraft II Officially Announced

I guess I'm finally starting to use what I'm good at to my advantage. I can out-macro most of my Bronze league opponents, which makes it all the more disappointing to me that I'm still IN Bronze. I really think the only reason I'm in Bronze is because I make careless, game-changing mistakes. Most of the time that means me trying to go for a quick win by charging the enemy's main base. Usually not such a good idea as I'm learning, especially if they have heavy defenses up.

So now I'm trying to think a bit more strategically, and slowly choke the opponent's economy. WAY more successful. All the base defenses in the world don't mean a thing if you're unable to expand. Maybe I should learn Zerg as well as Terran - That's pretty much what Zerg has to do to survive, right? And since I'm not losing half my army in a failed base assault, I can put up a much better fight in the middle of the map or when the enemy comes knocking on my door.

Feeling pretty good right now because I just owned mass Void Rays for the first time (including the beta!). Fighter Mode Vikings just tear them apart.

Even though I believe I'm going to be a Protoss player mostly, Vikings may be my favorite unit in the game. I really need to learn how to use Zerg better. I had gotten good with them in Starcraft 1, but now I do pretty bad with them.

Someone the other day said something I haven't forgotten. "Don't play Zerg unless your A) Pro B) South Korean."

Yeah I loved zerg in SC1. I had a really good record with them, but they seem much harder to play now. In the past their advantage was always just in overwhelming opponents with numbers and aggresiveness.

Now though that advantage has been rendered almost useless because everything is more expensive.

The cost of hydras has been increased by 25 minerals and they no longer have a movement speed upgrade, Overlords now have to evolve to detect cloaked units (a rather expensive evolve in the gas area at that).

The only thing they really made better was not needing multiple hatcheries as now a queen can allow a single hatchery to spit about about the equivalent larva of 3 hatches.

In beta up through now I have mostly been selecting random, but I'm thinking I'm going to just select one race and always be them. Having a different race nearly every game is probably hurting more than it is throwing off other people.

Yeah the game looks good on ultra settings, I have all of mine turned down though. Graphics are not a big concern for me, especially in an rts. Plus it helps with reducing heat.

I had the same reaction when I upgraded. Had to lower some settings though.

Also hurts that Hydras are a lot more squishy now and can't just me massed until the 200 unit limit. Sad indeed.

You need to extend the creep using queens.

Really its the only way Zerg are resources viable.

I'm not really sure how, but a friend and I found a Lurker Defense map and played it.

It was pretty fun until the game crashed.

I'm wondering if the creator did some kind of hack though because I searched all the the map editor and could not find lurkers anywhere.

I like them better now, they deal a lot more damage and you've got roaches/ultras to soak up damage.

You know each tumor can spawn it's own tumor right? Took me awhile to figure that out, I had my queen walking a marathon back and forth before I figured it out.

The editor is so advanced, you can create pretty much anything you want. Have you seen the video of the uberlisk?

                              Yes...I think

I think there was an easy/medium/hard in the original. I remember the ai being pretty good a few times, though that may just have been when it was 1v7.

I've enjoyed the little bit of the single player I've managed to get this aging 7 year old on death's door machine to get to run well enough. Just ordered a new rig and will hold off on finishing up the sp campaign and mp til the new rig gets here. But really first impressions wise, its starcraft, they didn't really innovate on the genre much if at all. It still retains the solid game play of the original, though I can't help but thinking they could have done more considering how long its been in development. Guess thats kinda typical Blizzard though.
