      I played a few matches for the first time in about 3 weeks the other day, and yeah, this game is still crazy addictive.

        I still love this game, but my friends have been playing company of heroes online so I've been on that lately, but I'd love to get back into some matches

          Another balancing patch dropped today:

          Wage war across the galaxy with three unique and powerful races. StarCraft II is a real-time strategy game from Blizzard Entertainment for the PC and Mac.


          StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty – Patch 1.1.2



          General

          • Players will no longer receive achievement toasts while their status is set to "Busy."

          • The messaging when attempting to load a saved game or replay from a previous version has been clarified.

          • Adjusted the amount of points earned and lost by random team participants to properly reflect the strength of a player's teammates.



          Balance

          • PROTOSS

          o Buildings

          • Nexus life and shields increased from 750/750 to 1000/1000.

          o Void Ray

          • Damage level 1 increased from 5 to 6 (+4 armored).

          • Damage level 2 decreased from 10 (+15 armored) to 8 (+8 armored).

          • Flux Vanes speed upgrade bonus decreased from 1.125 to 0.703.

          • TERRAN

          o Buildings

          • Barracks requirement changed from Command Center to Supply Depot.

          • Supply Depot life increased from 350 to 400.

          o Medivac

          • Acceleration reduced from 2.315 to 2.25.

          • Speed reduced from 2.75 to 2.5.

          o Reaper

          • Nitro Packs speed upgrade now has a Factory Requirement.

          o Thor

          • Energy bar removed.

          • 250mm Strike Cannons is now cooldown-based on a 50-second cooldown. Ability starts with cooldown available (useable immediately after upgrade is researched).

          • ZERG

          o Buildings

          • Hatchery life increased from 1250 to 1500.

          • Lair life increased from 1800 to 2000.

          • Spawning Pool life increased from 750 to 1000.

          • Spire life increased from 600 to 850.

          • Ultralisk Cavern life increased from 600 to 850.

          o Corruptor

          • Energy bar removed.

          • Corruption is now cooldown-based on a 45-second cooldown. Ability starts with cooldown expired (must wait for full 45-second cycle before usable).

          o Infestor

          • Fungal Growth now prevents Blink.

          o Roach

          • Range increased from 3 to 4.



          Bug Fixes

          • Fixed an issue where players could not cast the Feedback spell on Point Defense Drones.

          • Fixed an issue where the Phoenix would continue to channel Graviton Beam after the target died.

          • Fixed an issue that would cause Larvae to spawn and be hidden behind Zerg eggs.

          • Fixed an issue where players were unable to navigate to the Single Player page or watch replays after canceling map downloads from the queue.

          • Fixed a desync that could occur on user-created maps with custom mod dependencies.

            Yes, awesome in so many ways. The void rays finally get nerfed a bit, the Zerg buildings finally get some buffs (seriously, void rays versus Zerg buildings was like watching a steak knife cut through melted butter). All in all this sounds like it will make the multiplayer much more competitive.

              The health increase on buildings were done probably to reduce the effectiveness of marauder drops sniping buildings

                      Finally managed to take down the Very Hard AI without any cheesy tricks (proxy barracks, cannon rush, stuff like that). Man that felt good. Previously I'd just get wiped off the map in the first attack against very hard.

                      I don't know if I actually out-macroed it, but I managed to keep it from expanding and eventually they ran out of resources.

                      Edit: Well, the AI was Zerg, so of course I didn't out-macro them. I even lost a battle when both armies clashed (didn't expect them to throw banelings at me and all of my bio troops got wiped out). Fortunately I had some mech that was able to do a lot of damage before going down.

                        Does anyone still play multiplayer? I played a few hours a day for the first month or so, but haven't picked the game up since.

                          Nice.

                          I haven't tried Terran vs. Zerg (Very Hard AI) yet since the last patch came out, but I've yet to beat the very hard AI on Terran vs. Protoss. I've only successfully defended the first wave once, but everytime it seems like I can never get the right matchup despite pumping out as units and teching up as quickly as possible (the Protoss AI either had a colossus or three void rays in its first attack).

                            Bump. I just got this a couple days ago. I've been playing mostly unranked matches with a couple friends, a little campaign, and then some vs computer. It has been awhile since I've played an RTS (think like Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds), so I pretty much suck. I can handle easy, but medium just kicks my ***. You guys have any tips or advice?

                              I think if you haven't already you should pick a race and stick with them for a bit. Learn their units, strengths, weaknesses, etc. Also, it would help to learn some build orders. Knowing when to build certain buildings or units to maximize your early-game potential and help set you up for the mid-game. These aren't hard to learn but do a long way in helping you become a better player.

                              Do you have any desire to play online? Because honestly the best advice I have aside from what I said above is to just jump right in. Playing the computer can help you learn certain things, but playing online is a different animal and nothing aside from actually playing online (and not the practice matches either, those are bogus) will help you learn that.

                              Do you know what race you're going to play? I could help you out with some build orders since I do have experience playing as all three races.

                                If you're getting beat by medium, odds are you aren't building enough workers. Ideally you want to have 3 workers for each mineral patch, which means anywhere from 24-30 workers on minerals is optimal, depending on how many crystals are in the mineral field. It's actually the same for gas too, though it's much easier to see why with that resource - your workers will cluster up on the structure and wait for each other if there are too many.

                                If I remember correctly, Medium AI tops out at about 16 active workers per CC/Hatchery/Nexus. That means if you build more workers than that your economy will be stronger, and you can macro them (build more units, basically), into oblivion.

                                The higher levels (Hard and above) build many more workers, so it's not as easy to just out build them. And the highest level cheats on resource gathering like nobody's business (there's a reason it's called Insane).
