Re: WOO HOO! just picked up ocarina of time...

Strategy(Cheat) guides are a no no in my house. If I pay 50.00 for a game for a brain workout, why would I want the answers given to me.
Yeah I know you all that use them only use them after you finish the game to see what you missed, right.

I remember afew months ago someone responded that they tried for 20 minutes before going to guide..WTF?? 20 minutes and give up???

Here's is the real scenario that gets me:
Gamer: "I would like {insert game here} and the stategy guide."

Same gamer 5 hours later on website:
"{insert game here} was cool. I only took 5 hours to beat it though, not too much of a challenge for me..."

    Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

i don't but strategy guides either - maybe thats also why I never finish games. I just mentioned this one b/c gamestop gave me a free copy - and with the guide, I might actually complete it.

I just feel the guides take away from the value of the game. Guess not having them growing up and having to figure problems out on own is why I feel the guides hurt gameplay more than help. I remember being stuck for maybe days in one area of game, but when I did get it figured out it was great.
Now the guides just lend themselves to the "give up" "there's an easier way" mentality.

Well actually one sunday a week and then the weekend as I have had it for awhile. Plus I played it on the N64 so I knew what to expect. I had a hard time finding the sword when I played it on the N64.

Oh and I dont agree with buying Strategy Guides either, and have only bought one that I recall. FF 7

I am prone to sneak over to gamefaqs.com and take a peek at them when I am totally stuck in an adventure game. Now for those who need a guide for say a FPS like Halo then....

I'll sneak on over to Gamefaqs read the Splinter Cell Faq and then play the game. It never really helps because I usually forget as soon as I get the game fired up. I can't seem to hold on to useless information very long.

I had to cheat on SC because I had my head up my arse. I kept setting off the alrams in the early stages and would never read the message close enough about the bodies being found.

I'll check out gamefaqs.com as well. Especially when I think I know what I'm doing, but it's not working.

For example, in Splinter Cell, I thought I needed to make a certain jump to move on in the level. But I couldn't actually make the jump. So instead of wasting more time trying to make a jump that might be a red herring, I checked in at gamefaqs to see if I'm on the right track.
