Re: WSOP 2008: Battle for the Bracelets
I got it, it has a bunch of Vegas casinos in it, I've played at the Rio and Harrah's so far. One of the better poker games I've played. It looks like WSOP on ESPN when you're playing, pretty cool, very immersive. I'll put some more time into it this weekend to see how good the AI is.Comment

Re: WSOP 2008: Battle for the Bracelets
Got the PS3 version. Played for about an hour.
Nothing definitive to say about the AI except that they seem to play in accordance with professional standards (not much limping, first into the pot is usually 3x the BB, etc.).
Presentation-wise, I'm pretty much seeing the same game as last year (minus the sneezing, thank god) with some modest improvements. Commentary seems pretty much the same and, consequently, pretty much sucks. One thing I hate is that when you peek at your cards, your thumb blocks the suit of one of them. Kinda defeats the coolness and purpose of the peek since you have to look at the hub to know what you have anyway. Another glaring weakness of presentation is that a player's actions are displayed on the screen before their avatar performs it; i.e. you know if a guy is going to raise before they actually reach for chips. This was the case last year as well and I can't believe it's still there.
The overall feel and atmosphere is pretty good, but I was hoping for more. Not to say it's not an upgrade, because it is, but I still get the sense that a video game should be able to capture the mood, tone and feel of high-stakes poker a little better.
A major upgrade is the fact that you're not just limited to seemingly random tournaments like last year; now there's an actual calendar and scheduled events that you can either play or skip, earning points toward Player of the Year.
Gameplay has some weaknesses as well. Hopefully for you PC and 360 guys this isn't the case, but I've found that sometimes the game will confuse one action with another; specifically I want to fold, for example, and my guy will peak at his hole cards instead. Pretty inexcusable thing to let slip by testing, even if it is a PS3-only problem.
Overall I'd say the game is nothing special, there's still lots of room for improvement, but for getting your poker fix it does the job.

Why is the pc version $30 cheaper?

Um ... I gotta go with no, unfortunately. In hindsight, I should have just bought the PS2 or PC version. There's nothing 'next gen' about this game at all.

Fooled around a bit more today. One thing I do really like are the practice modes. You can, for example, play an entire orbit with the same hand of your choice. So, you can practice playing any two cards from each position. Doing that is almost as much fun as actually playing.I am become death

Re: WSOP 2008: Battle for the Bracelets
I ended up getting the 360 version and am really liking the game. I really like the career mode. You play cash games to earn buy ins to the many, many wsop events. I really like how all the different games are incorporated in to the wsop. Even the $50 K HORSE event and Razz are in there. There are lots of extras in the game also that can help anyone improve their game. So I give it a big thumbs up, its quite addicting even if I'm not playing for real money. If you really enjoy poker and want a game that is deep and has loads of options. I think this is worth $50 even though I bitched about it earlier. This game has a lot of value if you put the time in to it. If anyone gets the 360 version feel free to send me a friend request. I've been playing so much of the career mode I haven't even played online yet.Last edited by Pratt75; 10-14-2007, 10:29 AM.Comment

Re: WSOP 2008: Battle for the Bracelets
picked this up for the PS3 and I must say... its pretty good. The last poker game I played was Stacked for the PS2. The career mode is pretty sweet in this game and I am finding that the AI plays pretty decent. They catch on to how you are playing and if you just try to bluff your way thru, you will get sent home.
I played the first tournament on professional difficulty. There were 54 players and I ended up going out in 48th place. I got owned.
Quick question for those that have the game. Is there an in-game save feature?I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: WSOP 2008: Battle for the Bracelets
There is a autosave feature in the game. If your in a tourney and you pause the game(if autosave is enabled), at the bottom of the screen you should see the "saving content, do not turn off console" message. At least I'm noticing it in my 360 version, I can't speak for the PS3 but I would assume its in there as well. If its not it would make it very tough to make it through those tournies with over a thousand people.Comment
