WOW I just read the write up there and it seems this has a lot in common with old school adventure games. I wonder....will this turn off the usual Rockstar Games fan?

It sounds solid to me thought!

          Joystiq preview

LA Noire is quite possibly the most "mature" game to come out of Rockstar. The slow pace of investigation and the lengthy conversations you partake in will be off-putting for the impatient. But, those of us willing to absorb ourselves into the engrossing world crafted by Team Bondi will be rewarded with a "game for adults" defined more by its gravitas, and less by a penchant for violence.

That looks amazing. I love, LOVE the idea of using real faces. This has to happen all the time now.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

This is going to be an interesting test of how strong the Rockstar brand really is. I already know without a shadow of doubt, that this will be one of my favorite games ever, and that the game will be a technical marvel, but I'm not sure that the masses will buy a Rockstar game that isn't saturated with endless opportunities for mindless mayhem, and wanton destruction.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I'm sure they will market the hell out of it.

Yeah, I don't think it will struggle. I think even casual gamers trust R* makes good games now with all the high quality games they've put out over the years.

Also, RDR didn't have much hype until about a month before it released and it did huge numbers.

Yeah, and the fact that they can now say: "From the studio that brings you Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption" will help during the media barrage this game will get.
