Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
The story was alright. It just wasn't enough to keep me interested in playing the game anymore. I really didn't care what happened to Phelps. My attention span isn't what it used to be. If a game starts to bore me I don't waste my time struggling to get through it. I'd rather just move on to something else.Comment

Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
I beat the game a couple days ago. I liked the game ok but didn't love it.
I personally love the city, facial movements and the overall fun in solving cases and interrogating.
SpoilerIt's the story telling and the main character were issues for me. At first I liked Phelps because he just wanted to be good police and solve the crimes but then becomes a cheating prick.
I hope Rockstar gets A-List writers making these stories then I feel they will get it right. Instead of all this crap with his war buddies after every case they could have explored a different dynamic of Phelps and really get to know him.
Phelps was good police and wanted to be a good cop but maybe have some issues with authority or explore into finding out a big conspiracy within the police department.
You know Phelps ends up putting the wrong people in jail and they never cover it. Reinterview them again while they are in prison after you find out something else later in the game.
I wished Phelps would have done more sneaky detective stuff or go undercover a lot more. I hope in future games they utilize informants too. Imagine arresting a couple guys and you can make deals with them if they become your snitch.
Overall the game is good because the facial technology is just flat out amazing and love the interrogating concepts but get the writing in order.Comment

Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
I don't have a problem with some people not liking the game but I knew what I was getting into when I bought this. It's basically an old school adventure game that's been spiced up due to technological innovations and the use of cinematic/film narratives and techniques to bring forth something unique that's on the vanguard of something completely new in the video gaming world.
It's games like L.A. Noire and Heavy Rain which make me very interested and anticipating at least a new and exciting subgenre in gaming.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
The main issue I had with this game was the fizzling of writing at a certain point in the game. If they do plan on making a sequel, I hope they look at a writing staff capable of making a story that doesn't fall off as quick as this one.
SpoilerThe climax of the story (homicide desk) in this game was SO early, the rest of the game suffered because nothing else matched it. The whole sewage system finale was about as mundane as it could get for me. I'm not sure why they made the "Werewolf" such a short thing overall, wish they stuck with it a bit longer. The driving for the hints made me feel more involved in the story, I drove to the sites instead of forcing my partner to drive to the waypoints like always.
The cheating thing still makes no sense to me. Seemed forced since they showed 2 or 3 cinematic scenes of him with no dialogue. Felt like they put this in order for the story to progress, didnt feel natural to me. Atleast there was some dialogue about Roy selling Phelps out to the newspaper.
Alot of the characters were forgettable to me. When they referred to someone from a past case, I had to either look at my book thing in-game or LA Noire wiki it to remember who they were talking about. This was an issue for me even with the main suspects. There's only 2, maybe 3, guys that I remember without having look to up.
Really when I think about it, I would give the game a 70-75 without the technology they put into it. I avoided threads, demos, impressions and reviews of the game so I wasn't leaning towards good/bad before playing the game for myself.Aaron

Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
This is a game that is bound to disappoint people because it is an adventure type game and we just haven't seen these types of games in 20 years or so. The majority of gamers haven't seen these types of games before, games that take us back to police quest or king's quest and things of that nature.
Hopefully Rockstar doesn't change up the formula too much. Are there things they could improve upon? I am sure there are and I am sure that we will see that in the next iteration.Comment

When I think adventure, Uncharted immediately comes to mind. That game was awesome. As far as linear adventure games, they do it right. I wouldn't put LA Noire in the same category as UC however. Maybe that's what's bothering me so much. In UC you knew what you were playing. There wasn't this feeling like there is so much more they could have done, but didn't/ The game world was what it was, and that was it. LA Noire however, feels like the game world isn't complete for the game you're playing. I am sure that R* will improve on a lot in the next LA Noire. This is a game that is bound to disappoint people because it is an adventure type game and we just haven't seen these types of games in 20 years or so. Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
Its an OK game, nothing crazy awesome in my book. All the work they did on the City seems kinda pointless to me, as I would almost always prefer to have the partner drive to the scene as the driving is pretty pointless. You cant hit people, and it just looks out of place to drive fast. The city is probably great but seems like a wasted resource.
The Street Crimes are terrible, and I stopped doing them after a few because they were just weird, short, and had no real story at all.
Gun fighting is kinda bland. I do like the chases and car chases though.
The detective stuff is pretty good and it is alot harder to read people than I thought. I get like 50% of questions right.
Its a cool game, and would like to see them flesh it out with a "dexter" type setting.GT: Event Horizon 0Comment

My sentiments exactly, especially the city, as you said, seems wasted. I stopped doing the street crimes as well as they just became a burden than fun. And since I finished homicide I'm done driving to the crime scenes. Partner can do that. Its an OK game, nothing crazy awesome in my book. The best part of the game, and what they nailed pretty well IMO, is the crime scene investigations and interrogating witnesses. That has been really fun. All I wish is that the game was much longer. I can't justify this as a purchase with such a short main story. It should be twice as long as it was. Maybe they wouldn;t need 3 discs for the 360 if they didn;t have some much effort into a wasted city, and more into the story.Comment

It would def competed for GOTY if
1. The city was an open world where you would see crimes take place (like how RDR was with it's randomness)
How cool would it be to assist in a mob take down, or another bank robbery?
2. Controls like Heavy Rain (PS Move or Classic) or something else innovative, It's current control scheme is boring (R* even gives you a option to skip the action part of the game lol)
3. Non linear story, story change based on decisions made.
The graphics are amazing in this game, but gameplay and story isn't anything I haven't seen already..Too limited to be MY GOTY nominee.
Besides the facial expressions, the question witness/interrogation part of the game was done in the CSI games. (I love those games btw; that's why I'm not upset with my purchase of LA Noire, it just has so much potential)
There..
That's my list of l things I would suggest for this series, Im at Vice now and with most people around the Interwebs saying the game gets meh after homicide, I decided to not wait until I finished the game before I gave any feedback lol.Last edited by Jukeman; 05-30-2011, 02:46 PM.Comment

Sorry if this question has been answered.
Has R* stated plans to use the facial movement tech in future games? Or is this exclusive to the LA Noire franchise?Comment

That bank robbery was one of my favs. That's why I said I wish I could have used the shotty more often, or had more scenes like that.It would def competed for GOTY if

This game seems to be getting too predictable. I'm tired of every husband I interview on homicide desk to hate their wife, or somehow they are implicated in it besides the fact that they are married. It's repetitve.Comment
