Not to speak for everyone, but what I would surmise are the main reasons of disappointment with APF2K8 are A) lack of franchise like you said (or any offline depth; can't edit players, recreate NFL, etc), and B) people having great expectations of 2K to make a Madden-killer in all facets of the game, and then when the game features were finally announced disappointment with that.

I agree that APF plays the best game of the three football titles on the field, but given its lack of depth I'd argue that NCAA is the best all-around package (not to say NCAA doesn't have flaws of its own, however). Like I mentioned earlier, any of the football games this year could be justified as a disappointment, depending on one's preferences.

I put down APF2k8 because the gameplay is simply flawed in ways I can't get past.

They need to step up big time in the gameplay department, or I'm not going to even consider 2k9.

Hell - given puja's roster edits, 2k5 plays a better game of football than 2k8 - and it's 4 years old...

Gears of War. The multiplayer wasn't fun at all and the game got boring and repetitive after awhile. I sold it for more than I bought it so it wasn't a total loss.

Since this is disappointing and not worst I'll go..

1. Madden - I actually had high hopes seeing those blogs and all the improvements. It really looked like Madden might actually play football this year. And I'll never forget the sinking feeling my very first game. I knew right away that is was garbage. Thank got I got $51 for this on ebay so it turned out to be a rental.

2. Forza 2 - Not a bad game by any means. But we're going with disappointing here. I thought the game was fun for awhile, online was cool. But it just felt too....sterile. The AI was awful, always taking the same line and all. If just felt way too clean to me. I can't explain it better than that.

What's funny is I'm in love with NCAA 08 and so many hate it. I played a game last night that was so intense in my dynasty that my mouth was dry, cuz we can't lose or our season is done, and we're so close. When a game is engrossing and fun, things like presentation don't bother you. I guess you gotta have a little imagination left.

Madden 08 has been discussed, APF only got a day or two from me, MLB, played it for a couple months, couldn't get into it, Forza was awesome for about a month, then it just felt boring to me.

Madden 08-Do I need to repeat what's already been said on here ad nauseum?

Rainbow Six Vegas-I know lots of people love this game but I could never get into it for some reason. Maybe I should give it another shot.

I'm a little surprised at all the hate for APF2k8. On the one hand, I can see the disappointment if you are a solo player only. It certainly has little replay value for the solo gamer. However, I have some people I play with face to face and I love it. Trying out different created teams is fun..and the games are almost always pretty close. Plus I just love the football engine way more than Madden's. That said, I bought it when it dropped down to 29 dollars. At 60 I might have been a little more jaded. Still though, if they do end up releasing a new version I bet it will kick ***.

Rainbow Six: Vegas. The single player game was just deadly dull, and I found myself preferring multiplayer in Gears (and then obviously in Halo).

I'm enjoying Madden immensely, and find myself playing it far more than APF even though I've been a 2K guy. I think it's getting a seriously bad rap.

Give it another shot. If you started playing right around when it first came out you were probably getting whipped by Halo 2 veterans who were not yet leveled up properly. By now things should be more even. Although, you'll still find some people who are too good for the low levels and are just on their way up. Or you'll meet up with jerks who level down on purpose just to start beating the crap out of newer players. I don't know why people enjoy that but I guess some do. Once you get up to a certain level though it will even out and those instances will be rare. You just gotta put some time into it. And I'm not talking weeks. Just an hour here and there to get yourself to a suitable level.

Also, stay away from the social play lists at first. The name "social" is misleading. Some of the better players I find are in those play lists. Either they are on with friends, or they are just there for whatever reason. Stick with ranked lists at first. Go with Lone Wolves to start. That will get you the most consistent even matches. I think you'll find you might change your mind. If not than hey, to each their own. One of the things I love most about Halo is that I can consistently get a good challenging game when I jump online, so it was surprising for me to hear that comment. Like I said though, if you are new to it and you jumped on any time around release date I can see the frustration.
