        TeamXbox: Single-Player Hands-On

To maintain the player’s immersion, the game won’t pull away from the interaction for cutscenes. As such, Ubisoft is saying that there are no cutscenes, though there will be breaks when the storyline is presented. It’s just that all of it takes place while you’re in a first-person view, so you never can really sit back and relax—the action could start back up at any moment. As Ubisoft noted, this creates a game where “the player plays the story.” (This gameplay mechanic also enhances the two-player co-op experience, though we’ll have more on that in our detailed write-up next Monday.)
Ubisoft has made a point of improving the squad mechanics: Not only will they be more intelligent in their actions—which we hope will keep them from running blindly into a terrorist nest—and you’ll also have some additional command over them, including directing them to throw grenades, though they’ll stay within the designated rules of engagement. They’ll also be better at “leapfrogging,” which tries to maintain a constant alternating flow of one person moving, the other covering.

Of course, the AI enhancements won’t just help you roll over the opposition and make the game a cakewalk. Ubisoft also used the advanced AI to make the enemies more capable and dangerous. You’ll find yourself in more situations where the enemy will be attacking you from above, and if an adversary is wounded behind cover—because RS Vegas 2 will offer destructible environments and bullet penetration—he’ll be more likely to seek out a safer location in which to pull himself back together, just as you would. Shoot someone through a corner and he’ll back up enough to stop you from shooting him yet remain under the same cover. The terrorists will also be better equipped than before, with access to the same kinds of laser sights, thermal/night vision goggles and ballistic shields that you thought were exclusive to your inventory.

The end result is that you’ll have to use your team better in order to counter the terrorist threat and come out on top, and Plourd noted that it should make it so that “the player feels really powerful.” RS Vegas 2 improvements and game design promise to create situations where a run-and-gun strategy will be more likely to slam into a wall of hurt, but tactical strategy will be rewarded with a better outcome. That said, we also found a couple of situations in our partial playthrough of the single-player gameplay where, sitting back and strategizing for too long allowed the terrorists to proceed with their lethal plan before you even have time to initiate your operation. At that point, all you can do is go back to the drawing board with a restart at the last checkpoint.

Already reserved my copy. CoD4 is a brilliant war game, but tactics is where my modern warfare heart lies. Vegas 2 basically just has to be part 1 with a sprint button, and I'm there. Plus, the story mode from part 1 has me wanting to see the ending.

Does anyone here know if you can still do co-op online terrorist hunt? I know you can play the missions co-op online but sometimes you just like to setup a terrorist hunt with a buddy and go after them.

Also, I see someone brought up the issue of a sprint button - is that for sure confirmed to be in the upcoming game?

I asked earlier and never saw it answered...does anyone know if the co-op is still more than 2 players? Same with T-Hunt. I really hope they didn't change that.

Just about two weeks away. I'll have my 360 back in time, can't wait.

I am wondering if it's going to be better than COD4, I love that game.

I am starting to get excited. I haven't read much about it to keep my hype meter down (pretty much no way to be disappointed)

Look forward to seeing you all online.
