Re: Street Fighter IV/Super Street Fighter IV (360/PS3/PC)
Man I got tired of chasing Juri around. I should've just went to sleep because I was starting to get frustrated because I kept messing up Ibuki's vortex and not finishing target combos. I stuck with it for a while but chasing Juri and you jumping back only made it worse..LOL. Those were GGs though, I just need some sleep before I fight against defensive characters.

Re: Street Fighter IV/Super Street Fighter IV (360/PS3/PC)
What exactly is the point of the Ultra Counters? I mean as long as you know which Ultra your opponent picked, you're going to freeze every time you see the close-up, or hurl a fireball their way.
I mean, not even the CPU is dumb enough to attack someone while they're in that counter pose.
Other normal counters like Dudley's are pretty effective - it's all about the speed at which they're carried out.Comment

Re: Street Fighter IV/Super Street Fighter IV (360/PS3/PC)
Focus Attack cancel (everyone can do this)
Hooligan Combo (let it play out and hit low)
Cannon Spike + FADC
Spin Knuckle
Not to mention GDS has priority over a bunch of other Ultras - it's possible to fire it off immediately after your opponent triggers their ultra and it will hit against a bunch of characters. Or at least it did in SFIV - I haven't had too many opportunities to try it in this game yet..
But for a counter Ultra like Cammy's CQC, you can't combo into it because the opponent has to hit you first. And unless you catch somebody being stupid like 24th letter mentioned, I don't see how it's ever going to hit reliably because people will just sit back and not press anything, or hurl a fireball in your face.
I like the idea, but I just don't think it works too well because of the closeup animation being a huge red flag saying "DO NOT ATTACK!"Last edited by bcruise; 04-30-2010, 05:22 PM.Comment

What I bolded are the exact reasons counter ultras were being petitioned before the game came out and why they are despised in general, especially in the Street Fighter IV engine.
Almost every ultra has startup invincibility frames. Meaning, if someone triggers their ultra you're able to trigger yours and nullify theirs because their ultra is hitting you during your ultras invincibility frames. (see first 10 seconds of video below)<object width="640" height="385">

Because of this most of the original ultras could be used as a "counter ultra".
Cammy and Fei's new ultra's are horrible because of the the second statement I bolded. Because of the 3D-cinematic ultra freezes in this game the screen basically tells the opponent to stop pressing buttons. Not only that but the counter ultras lose to armor breaking moves and they can be thrown.
Not sure about Cammy, but most Fei players wanted a new ultra because of how useless his first one is. You can't combo into the full animation, and it can be blocked even if the first hit misses depending on the spacing. Instead we get a counter ultra. Then they had the nerve to make Fei say that nonsense..it's ridiculous to hear him say "Come at me from whatever direction you like!", and then get thrown on the floor. My sig on SRK sums it up nice..

"Here's a present for you" - a free shot!
I did just realize last night that CQC can counter other Ultras (the close range, non-fireball kind), so that at least gives it some kind of use - when an opponent activates their Ultra and they're moving toward you, activate CQC and watch the fireworks. But as you mentioned, why would I use that when GDS gives me the same thing AND I can use it to actually attack?
On another note, I really like the character themes playing as BGM. All you have to do is select an icon and title to unlock it in the options menu. Then, when you're playing online, player 2 will have their theme play during online fights. Pretty nice when you're doing fight request (which makes you player 1, of course) - you get to hear a lot of different themes that way.Last edited by bcruise; 05-01-2010, 04:26 PM.Comment
