    dolby surround systems

OK fellas, just bought the Bose Freestyle Speaker System to use with my Xbox. Just realized that I needed to buy the optical cable to go along with my Advanced AV Pack. My question for anyone out there that has this sound system is....is this all I need to buy is the optical cable? For those familiar with the system do I just plug one end of the optical cable to the AV pack and the other end to the modular that has the game jack, a L/R Audio and the Aux jack?

Well, the 1st thing I would do is get my money back ASAP! If you are interested in a much better system at roughly the same price then check out the 5.1 Digital Dream Multimedia System . That is a MUCH better set of speakers.

Anyway, but to you question all you need is 1 optical connection from the AV pack to the Bose decoder module. Again, I must stress, you can do a lot better for the money you've laid down. Let us know if you get it hooked up okay.

Well damn, I didn't know Bose put out such a crappy product. I am rather inexperienced when it comes to home audio systems, the freestyle attracted me because it was so easy to hook up with not many wires to figure out. So it seems I can do alot better for the price I paid huh. The only problem is I have absolutely no idea how to hook up say a system like the Klipsch 5.1 ProMedia. Would I still only need to buy just the optical cable and that is it?

Ask the people who sell it to you. I've been hearing that Bose is oh-ver-rated... for a few months now. I'm in the market for a new home theatre system too and I'm no longer considering Bose. I think you should just get you a good receiver and then add some good speakers to it. It should be less expensive than a Bose system!

That freestyle system only simulates surround sound (and does it weakly) and basically only warrants purchase if you are going to keep it in a very very small room for a loooooooong time. If you're in an average sized room just do what SoMiss said and get a receiver and some speakers. This way you are flexible if you ever re-arrange the room or put the system in another room.

Do any of you guys hook up your xbox to a standard home theatre system? If so, do you hook it up just like a regular dvd player?
