Put simply, lucas arts rushed the game out for christmas so it was released unfinished. It was developed by Obsidian which was created when black isle studios went under i believe. They had some great RPG's, baldurs gate, planescape: torment, fallout, and obsidian released nwn2 recently.

I thought the game improved on kotor1 in gameplay aspects in every category, it just wasn't finished and bugs / a broken ending leave it scarred. There is a restoration project in the works (it's been in the works for a long time, hopefully they get it released soon) that I am very much looking forward to.

Re: Bioware is working on a new KotOR

This is great news, especially that it isn't a MMO type of game, I don't really care for those, especially one with the kind of story KOTOR had. KOTOR 1 just rocked, that game was solid. 2 was alright I guess. I just hope that Bioware isn't working on too many things at once to where the quality of all is lessened. I am excited for another KOTOR, but I am more excited for Mass Effect 2.

I wouldn't even care if they wrapped up the story. A KOTOR with the new engine, looking like Mass Effect would be unbelievable. As long as it's Star Wars related I think it would be a huge success.

I wonder how the gameplay will end up. Will it go back to the old KOTOR system or will it be real-time? And if it's real time how will the light saber battles go?

I would hope that it goes to real time but the KOTOR system wasn't too bad.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

I mean, after coming out with Jade Empire and than Mass Effect you see Bioware's attempts to work away from a turn based system and if KOTOR III were to come out with a turn based system it'd likely be seen as a regression.

It is definately something to look forward to.

I never play RPGs but played KotOR and the sequel. Both really fun games.

                  KOTOR's Future Uncertain

IGN recently reported on a list of upcoming games unveiled at EA's latest investor's meeting. During a presentation entitled "Best Creative Talent," EA touched on a number of titles that were considered the pinnacle of design, putting amazing creative talent to work on building inspiring worlds and impressive games. Along with the announcement of new titles from EA, a slide showing some titles (both old and new) was showcased during the conference. While some games, BioWare's "New MMO" included, are obviously referencing games to come, EA has contacted us further and commented that not every game mentioned is upcoming.

So where does BioWare stand in all of this? We know there's a new MMO on the way, and that both EA and LucasArts have acknowledged this publicly, but there's no definite answer on whether or not we'll see KOTOR's return in the future. In contacting LucasArts about its works with BioWare, and the possibility of a future KOTOR product, the company stated that, "Yes, we are working with BioWare. We've announced that we're working with the developer on a project, but it has nothing to do with Knights of the Old Republic."

I agree with this. Through the first 60% of the game I though KOTOR 2 was much better than KOTOR 1 and KOTOR 1 was a great, great game. Lucas Arts really did a disservice to Obsidian and the franchise.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

They HAVE to make this realtime.

I really hope it's realtime as well. I really liked the first KotOR, but never got around to the second one. I'm not a huge RPG fan, but that game was excellent, as is Mass Effect. I have high hopes for this.

I hope it stays like it was. Why is every developer trying to make RPG's into FPS? KOTOR > Mass Effect. The fighting in Mass Effect was lame in my opinion, I missed the strategy of KOTOR.

How was it lame? The KOTOR system might as well have been real time, there was no strategy to the fighting all you did was stack the actions and then watch them play out.

I would welcome a real-time battle engine but I really enjoyed the system implemented in KOTOR. It's still one of my all-time favorite games. I believe even non Star Wars geeks would really enjoy it.
