Re: Lost Odyssey Impressions
Intial (early) impressions:
Love:
The music.
The art-direction/graphics.
Like:
The combat and the strategy that goes along with it (skill-linking, timing attacks, guard-condition, ect).
The characters.
The story.
Don't Like:
The lack of a camera angle that can rotate 360 degrees (it's hard for me to engross myself in the world if I can't see and explore every inch of it).
Random battles.
The "1,000 year dream" sequences (the three that I've read through were unecessarily lengthy in my opinion).
Hate:

Re: Lost Odyssey Impressions
Yea, I'm on disk 2 also.
In reference to your spoiler...
SpoilerI was more surprised when they revealed that she was Liram. I was like, what! No way. Seeing her as an adult with children. I thought she was long dead based on Kiam's memories. Never saw that coming.Last edited by Mr.Wednesday; 02-16-2008, 02:29 AM.PSN: PhiNuPi

Re: Lost Odyssey Impressions
Finished disc 1. Took me 14 1/2 hours.
Still really enjoying it. Story has been pretty good so far. I really like the character development and interaction. I can't say enough about the Thousands Years of Dreams. They are on another level compared to the writing in the rest of the game. You really see the difference between an accomplished novelist and a video game writer.
I agree with spongedaddy, I would have liked to have seen the judgement ring system from Shadow Hearts, but I will take a watered down version any day over simply just selecting commands.
I guess my biggest negative so far would have to be parts during some of the in-game cutscenes being really unimpressive.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Lost Odyssey Impressions
Are the load times as bad as IGN says? I might pick this game up this weekend.Joshua:

Re: Lost Odyssey Impressions
the review builds have much longer load times than the retail game... it's why Game Informer are holding off on their review and why gamespot may RE-RATE the gamehttp://www.myspace.com/phillthegenesis

Re: Lost Odyssey Impressions
At first I was a litttle turned-off by the heavy Japenese influence in the clothing, character models (particularly the clothing), and the buildings; I know it's a JRPG, but it doesn't have to be that obvious.
But as I ventured out into the open world I began to appreciate the design of the land, the enemy-types, the special effects you see when you use items/magic, and the atmosphere in general (the 'magic energy' particles floating in the air is beautiful). When I played Eternal Sonata & Blue Dragon everything was so vibrant and colorful that I had a hard time believing that there was any conflict in the world, but the art-direction in L.O. makes me feel like the world is in disarray; and that motivates me to keep playing so that I might right whatever has gone wrong.Last edited by DLaren; 02-16-2008, 03:49 PM.

Re: Lost Odyssey Impressions
I just played through the whole Lirum part...WoW!
I don't think I've ever been this emotionally involved in a video game before. Anyone feel the same?Comment

Re: Lost Odyssey Impressions
This is how long it takes to get in and out of battles. Add 5-8 seconds and you got the load times for transitioning in and out of cutscenes. It's like 2-4 seconds when going into new areas. Also, the game does seem to use the HDD for caching, because I found going back into areas, shops, and stuff that I previously visited to be a little faster.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Wow, that loading time is virtually irrelevant. This is how long it takes to get in and out of battles. Add 5-8 seconds and you got the load times for transitioning in and out of cutscenes.
