Talk about a surprise, I decide to pop this game in after being away from it a few months to get some Annex in. Well obviously the effect of the smoke grenade has been changed, and I found this out the hard way, I toss in a smoke grenade follow it up looking to wreck shop and get popped because it's basically the smoke grenade from Gears 1 now....lol

It's so funny that this topic got bumped today because I popped this game in for the first time in four months or so just tonight! Me and three of my friends were rocking some horde and working on getting the map specific achievements for the Dark Corners maps. Pretty fun!

I'll keep you in mind. I still need to complete a good chunk of those achievements.

good to hear Epic finally changed it, and I'm glad they took into consideration feedback from the community. I know the overwhelming majority of the online community hated the knockdown smoke that eventually became the 2-second stun smoke, and I was in that camp as well. I'm glad the smoke grenade is nothing more than a smoke grenade any more.

Yeah I prefer that as well, was just surprised that it was actually changed and had got into the habit of it stunning people. I'm hoping it still at least makes people drop human shields, and the regular shield that you can pick up

If you guys want to ever get down on some horde and go for those achievements just let me know. I don't play multiplayer besides horde though. Too many glitchers and 12 year olds.

this weekend is a double exp weekend in Gears 2. Starts 9 am EST Friday and ends Monday at 9 am EST. The double exp weekend consists of:

-revives are double points in all game types
-wingman is double normal exp (which makes it 4x exp)
-horde mode is double exp

Saturday and Sunday I'll be pretty consumed by work, but Friday from about noon to 5 I would be down to play some horde if anybody is interested.

Improvements

• Adds a new public multiplayer match option called Social Xbox LIVE (aka player matches), open to anyone who owns all downloadable maps (that is, All Fronts Collection). We’ll be having a promotion that will dramatically reduce the cost of the All Fronts Collection.

• You can join Social Matches in progress and can quit any time without penalty, although players who quit a match early don’t receive earned experience (XP) from that match.
• Social matchmaking lets your party join a match in progress. If a match is not found, your party hosts a new match, filling any empty player slots with bots.
• Social Matches automatically cycle to the next map without further matchmaking.
• Teams are rebalanced between matches based on XP level without splitting parties.
• If you quit, your spot is taken by a bot until a new player joins the match. That new player can join while the match is in progress.
• If you join a match in progress, you are assigned a team based on XP level and party size.
• If you join a match in progress, you replace a bot at the earliest opportunity: at the first bot’s death for respawning game types (for example, Annex) and at round completion for Warzone, Execution, and Wingman.
• Social leaderboards become part of the War Journal.

• Renames Public Matches to Ranked Xbox LIVE Matches to differentiate these from Social Xbox LIVE Matches, and adds some improvements to these matches.

• Improved host selection using bandwidth testing and previous hosting data has been added
• Before the match begins, teams are balanced based on XP without splitting parties.
  Renames Private Matches to Custom Xbox LIVE Matches and makes these matches invite-only.
• Adds the ability to join Horde sessions that are in progress.
• In Social Horde, you can join a session in progress through matchmaking and you are able to continue your session from the last wave you failed without starting over.
• In Ranked Horde, you can join a session in progress only through invites.
• If you join a session in progress, at the end of the session you receive the score you achieved during the time you spent in the session.
• Improves the precision of weapon selection using the D-pad.
• Improves client-side hit detection for ballistic weapons.

Exploit Fixes

• Execution rules could be ignored when using certain weapon types.
• On the Subway map, you could get outside of the playable environment by sliding into cover and rolling between a train car and the side of tracks.
• On the Blood Drive map, you could get outside of the playable environment in various locations.
• Players could grief other players on Submission, Annex, King of the Hill, and Guardian games by preventing the objective from being completed while racking up experience. Title Update 6 adds match time limits to each of these game types to prevent this practice.

General Fixes

• An issue that could cause your profile to be overwritten, erasing XP level, and achievement progress.
• An issue that could cause a campaign save slot to be overwritten if you previously chose to continue without saving and then signed in.

Balancing

• Changes the Gnasher Shotgun pellet pattern to increase hit consistency.
• Changes the Guardian game type to select the leader based upon XP level (highest to lowest).

thanks, EPIC, but this is all stuff that should've come out a year ago.

edit: oh man, went to the official Gears of War 2 forums at EPIC and another thing they included was now you can shoot directly out of the roadie run. This was the way it was in the original Gears. They removed it for Gears 2 because people would just roll and shoot all day and it was annoying. Now they're bringing it back? I don't understand why. A lot of hardcore Gears fans are thrilled about the news but I kind of like the way it was without it.

funny thing for me is, I still have yet to play Gears 2. It's sitting in my draw, still have to get to it. Since my 3 year absent from the 360, I trying to play through 1 again and then start 2. I will not part with these two games even after I'm done.

Forget double XP like other games, how about 6 times XP?

It's official, we're going with 6x XP for the week of E3. So that's 3 times the current double XP.

It will run from June 14th @ 9AM EDT till June 21st @ 9 AM EDT

that's good news, I'm down. Still need to get above rank 50. I also haven't played with the newest title update yet so I'm looking forward to that despite what I said about it above.

Wish this was actually true, the host in this game is ridicolous. Nothing can truly be done to fix this from the looks of it until they add dedicated servers. I'm going to pray every night until Gears 3 releases that they actually deliver on this.

Gears 2 is just a good gm multiplayer wise being held back from being great because of stupid host & lag.

Still playing since day one in order to receive the good you got to take the bad or maybe im just addicted.
