I can see why this game has so many mixed opinions, but I'm really enjoying it. The depth of the conversations, story, and characters are interesting enough to overcome the PS2 era gameplay.

I'll get it tomorrow, but this is pretty much how I expect I'll feel about it.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I still plan to pick it up, but I'm tempering my expectations based on the reviews so far. I don't even care if it looks like original Xbox as long as SOMETHING keeps me interested.

Is the combat like ME2? ME1? Is it similiar to red dead? I loved mass effects combat, but find red dead to be pretty bad. I know alot of people like rdr combat so maybe this wouldn't be a big deal for me. Other than combat complaints the game looks good.

Everyone who has played the game says that the combat is like the first Mass Effect.

Re: Alpha Protocol (Obsidian's new action-RPG)

I've been playing this on PC now for a few hours. I'm probably a quarter of the way through the story, and I really like it so far. It's definitely something that keeps your attention storywise, and while the action isn't great by any means (in some spots it's pretty bad), it's not nearly the game killer as some reviewers would have you think. The shooting mechanic takes some getting used to, but is actually more accurate than I thought it would be.

Should the game be better? Absoutely. They definitely needed to polish some things up a little bit more, like enemy AI and colission detection, but the story is very engaging.

It's not a day 1 run out and purchase, imo, but if you can find it for like 40 bucks, you'd be pretty pleased.

This review is spot on. I think a lot of people here would hate this game with good cause, but I think a lot of you would really enjoy it.

Combat feels really loose. It reminds me of Freedom Fighters, but with, possibly, the worst AI I've ever experienced. Also, it's true that you will have the targeting reticule right on people and you will miss a lot of the time. This is an RPG so there are numerous things you can do with your character or the weapon to make it better. If you give a level 1 healer a tier 1 sword in Dragon Age, he probably won't touch a level 10 champion with a runed-up tier 7 sword. Same deal in this game. I don't see a problem at all with the shooting. There's nothing about the combat that I would characterize as good, but the AI and, maybe, the lackluster combat skills are the only things I would say are truly wrong with it....but, yeah, it's bad overall.

This has the best dialogue mechanics since Planescape Torment and Fallout 2. It's like Mass Effect, but, unlike that game, your choices actually matter. You can't always just stick the cursor in the Paragon or Renegade position and know that you're getting exactly what you want. Throughout the game, your choices will affect your stats, loot, and who dies. Since the dialogue and combat differ in quality by such a large margin, my favorite missions haven't involved combat at all.

Alpha Protocol reminds me of Arcanum. Both RPGs were ambitious, but were marred by bad combat and just had that feeling of being "rough."

                      This sounds RPG-lite, action-heavy while F and PST were RPG-heavy, action-lite.
Heh...I said this over two years ago in this thread. I'm so cynical about games these days.

I managed to get this a day early on PC and this is just like Dragon Age. Graphics look great on PC and dated on consoles. That beign said its a shame how much hate is being landed on this game. I haven't run into any bugs yet. I'm going to get the console versions to compare but right now its been really smooth for me. As for the story this game is really good story wise, at the moment I feel like I'm playing through a Robert Ludlum novel. The devs weren't kidding when they said you'd have a lot of choices as I'm starting to wonder what would have happened had I done some things differently.

Its pretty much like ME1 in that your weapons accuracy + gun damage is based on stats and skills. The more points you put in a weapon the more accurate it becomes and it does more damage. There is also different tiers of weapons and the higher tiers get progressively better. The cool features is you get to fully customize your weapons. From adding a silencer, scopes, custom grips, etc.

I am basically done with PC gaming except text sims. I don't have the time or patience to deal with all drivers, hardware, etc. I want to put the game in and play it at this point in my life.

They were out of PS3 copies when I got there.
