    Infinite Undiscovery (360)

Infinite Undiscovery is an Xbox 360 game being developed by tri-Ace and published by Square Enix.

It is set to contain 10 years worth of ideas from Yoshiharu Gotanda and is being designed "with the thought that the Xbox 360 would be able to realize our plans." It is set in a world that changes in real time, with players choices leading to "unknown discoveries," explaining the reason behind the name of the game. According to tri-Ace, "RPGs will undergo a true evolution."

    A little OXM Info

    Infinite Undiscovery Xbox 360
    Release date: Summer 2008
    • Battle system is real time and seamless, two types of attacks light and heavy. You can also juggle the enemies. Can team up with party members for attacks.
    • Enemies react to your presence either by vision, sound or smell. They explained the smell bit, enemies like dogs can spot you by smell, but they can be distracted by throwing some food at them.
    • Varied scenarios. They talked about the dragon attacking a village you are in, while a party member receives some treatment. You can use stealth for nighttime scenarios or you can force your way through, they leave that to the player.
    • Some of these Situational Battles have multiple solutions, like the nighttime scenario.
    • The decisions you make, will directly affect your adventure. One example they gave was the ogre when escaping from a prison, you can use these exploding barrels to destroy enemies barricades, but that will wake up and ogre and it'll start chasing you.

    Re: Infinite Undiscovery (360)

The 360 has just been pumping out quality RPGs. Mass Effect and Lost Odyssey were great starts and IU looks like its going to carry on that tradition.

I applaud Microsoft for getting so heavily involved in the RPG market, especially that for JRPGs. It seems Microsoft's investment has begun to pay off with the sales momentum of games like Lost Odyssey.

I'm in RPG-heaven with this system

Infinite Undiscovery looks great- it will be interesting to see how this realtime JRPG will work. Tri-Ace is a great developer and I think this game will be solid. I liked the Star Ocean series and this seems like it will trump those games.

      Re: Infinite Undiscovery (360)

Square Enix and Tri-Ace have been very quite about their Xbox 360 exclusive Infinite Undiscovery for quite a while, but Official Xbox Magazine's May issue has an exclusive preview of the game, which they call Infinite Possibilities. The magazine also claims the game is to be released this Summer.

      » View scans

The scans from the issue provide many new screenshots, artwork and finally, some fresh information:

      · The world of Infinite Undiscovery has an obsession with the moon. The king has formed the Order of Chains, who "chained up the moon" and turned the planet's landscape into "nothing but a bleak wasteland".

      · The world of Infinite Undiscovery has an obsession with the moon. The king has formed the Order of Chains, who "chained up the moon" and turned the planet's landscape into "nothing but a bleak wasteland".

      · The Order of Chains have captured the heroine of the game, Capel, who they call "The Liberator". He is saved by the lovely, bow-and-arrow equipped Aya, which has taken him to a group of rebel warriors.

      · The leader of the warrior group, a noble knight by the name of Sigmund. He looks exactly like Capel, which is why the Order captured him.

      · The game introduces real time battle system: You can encounter enemies at anytime on the field - even when you think you're safely checking your inventory in the menu. When you are attacked the screen doesn't shift to a separate battle menu, and you'll instantly begin to fight with up to three characters automatically.

      · You can chain together different attacks, light and heavy ones, and even execute attacks that launch your enemies into the air so you can slam them into the ground. The attacks can be chained with your allies, too.

      · You are only able to control one character during a battle, and Tri-Ace didn't reveal any further details on how we'll be able to switch from one character to another.

      · When you explore the world when it's sunny, you will be able to see enemies a mile away and vice versa. But once you explore the world at night, their vision decreases - and a mini-map in the upper corner of the screen will indicate just how far they can see. You can try and sneak, but beware, vision isn't the only way for monsters to detect you - sound and smell, too.

      · Director Hiroshi Ogawa gives an example of smell in the game: When you are running from a hunting dog, you can distract him by dropping apples from the trees, however, the guards might catch you by hearing the apples fall.

      · The director promises many characters in the game, but says Capel, Aya and Sigmund are the main characters. Once asked who his favorite character is, he admits it's none of the three, but rather a new, yet to be announced character.

In this generation the script has been flipped. The Microsoft console is the system of choice for the RPG gamer. Last gen it was the Sony machine. I never saw that coming.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Well, there's another game I have to add to my "must buy" list. I still find it odd to see Square Enix making a game for the 360. Don't get me wrong, happy to see it. Still seems out of place to me.

I have my eyes on this one also after enjoying Mass Effect and Lost Odyssey. So many good non-sports games this gen.

I have no idea how this thing is real time fighting. It looks like every other japanese rpg, I just can't get over that. It looks like it should be turn based.

I'm not saying that it's not going to be real time but it's just weird seeing the typical japanese rpg stuff in the corner(like Cyros said) and the whole look of the game but with real time combat.
