Can't wait for this game. Loved Lost Odyssey and am itching for another buyable RPG. Actually been thinking about replaying some old RPG's while my 360 is dead... FF7, FF8, FF9, FF10, FF10-2, FF12, Chrono Trigger, etc. etc... So many awesome games, so little time.

          Couple tidbits from Famitsu.
          • Privite Events are in. When Private Events happen between the main character and a party member, there's dialogue options and stuff just like in the Star Ocean games.
          • Party Connects in towns and villages. When in a town or village Capel can connect with a party member like he does in battle, allowing the player to bring that party member along with Capel around the village to interact with people to get results that he would not get alone.

            Finally, some direct-feed gameplay videos.

I wonder if you will be able to turn of the voices in combat, because they seem like they will get annoying fast. Also, the frame rate suffers at times. Not game breaking, but it's definitely noticeable.

            ...

            IGN: Infinite Undiscovery Preview

The story in Infinite Undiscovery sounds promising. You play as Capell, a young wayward musician who looks exactly like Sigmund, one of the world's great heroes. Through a comedy of errors, Capell ends up being thrust into an epic conflict involving "The Order's" desire to unchain the moon from the world. Yes, you read that correctly -- the moon is tethered to the world through a series of magical chains.

Early in Capell's adventures, he meets twins Rico and Rucha. The twins are some of the earliest members to join your party. But there are many more characters you will meet and fight alongside. Joining Capell are 17 other characters, who can, at certain points, be separated into three groups of up to four characters each.
Combat is real-time, with not a hint of turn-based control. Battles are simple enough. You control Capell and use the A and B buttons for light and heavy attacks. You can also hold either button to use the skill you've assigned. Using the buttons (and skills) in various combinations can unleash some effective moves. The one part that may be tough for people to get used to in real-time combat is the lack of a block button. Instead of a constant block option, you can press the Left Trigger at the moment an attack is about to hit in order to parry. A successful parry leaves your enemy temporarily stunned -- and we've seen this work on bosses to boot!

Combat get very hectic, especially in areas when you have multiple groups of your team fighting. This is good in once sense, because it keeps things interesting. Combat -- at least from what we've seen -- doesn't seem mundane. Unfortunately, things are so hectic that the framerate suffers regularly. Throughout our demo, the framerate dipped during Capell's biggest moves. With Infinite Undiscovery just a few weeks away, the framerate is likely not getting any better. That's just something RPG fans will have to live with. At least the rest of the Undiscovery seems promising.

I was unaware of this game, not sure what was wrong with me. The great thing about that, is that it is two weeks out.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

                            The Characters of Infinite Undiscovery

Infinite Undiscovery is being positioned as the RPG to break the classic confines of RPG convention, shunning random-encounter battles, turn-based fighting, or linear plot progression. As we previously covered, the mechanics have been beefed up when compared to traditional JRPGs, featuring destructible cover, hybrid action fighting with chainable combos, and the capability to take on multiple monsters simultaneously.

But how does it stack up on another critical element to a successful RPG: storyline? We shed light on the story and lore to Square Enix's upcoming RPG with an overview of some of the major characters.

                            Capell
Unlike the typical youthful protagonist with a world-conquering gleam of ambition in his eye, Capell is the reluctant protagonist and hero to this tale. He is a Glyphbare, or a person born without a glyph. Almost all humans receive a lunar glyph upon birth, but since Capell was born on the night of an eclipse and didn't get one, he was considered cursed, and was consequently abandoned as a baby along the river. Fortunately, traveling minstrels rescued the boy, but his life is still marked by persecution and hardship.

Capell's life takes a turn when he is captured, mistaken for a hero named Sigmund who bears a striking resemblance to Capell. Aya, Sigmund's agent, rescues Capell, and Capell joins forces with Sigmund and his heroic entourage.

                            Aya
Aya is vibrant young girl around the same age as Capell (15-17). Although at first glance she seems reserved, she's quite energetic and cheerful. A member of the Liberation Army, which is fighting against Leonid, she mistakenly rescues Capell at the beginning of the story, thinking Sigmund was captured. Upon getting to know Capell, Aya seems to show more affinity for Capell rather than Sigmund, and is attracted to Capell's quiet strength and kindness.

Aya's main weapon is her massive bow, which she uses in conjunction with her fire glyph to launch explosive and flaming arrows.

                            Sigmund
Also known as the Hero of Light, Sigmund is renowned across the land as the valorous warrior who is attempting to destroy the chains that bind the moon. Although succeeding in destroying two chains, his third effort was thwarted by Leonid. Unsuccessful, Sigmund retreats, which is where the game starts off.

In contrast to Capell and in spite of their visual similarity, their personalities differ greatly. Whereas Capell avoids trouble and pulls away, Sigmund is confident, assertive and charismatic. A man of conscience, his only goal is to free the moon. For combat, Sigmund wears heavy armor and wields a sword and shield. He excels at parrying, deflecting and counterattacking.

                            Leonid
In spite of his apparent young age in the late 20s, Leonid is an imposing, powerful ruler. The son of the Halgitian empress Svala, Leonid rose to power when the kingdom of Cassandra lost its king, consolidating his grip on the land by using the Cassandran army to form the Order of Chains. Fixated on being close to the moon god Veros (who resides on the moon and watches over the world), Leonid bound the moon with giant chains to have it continually hovering over Cassandra. Cold, cunning and calculating, his zealous devotion towards Veros makes him dangerously unpredictable.

Intrigued by Infinite Undiscovery's lore and gameplay? Then keep an eye out for the upcoming RPG, which is an Xbox 360 exclusive slated to hit retailer shelves on September 2nd. Also, stay tuned as we unveil more character and plot details!

It sucks that this and Vesperia are coming out so close to each other, because it's going to force me to choose between them. I will say I'm a little more excited for this, because I'm really intrigued by some of the new things it's bringing to the table for JRPGs. But everything I have been reading about Vesperia has been great. My only previous Tales experience was Symphonia, which I really enjoyed, so this is going to be a tough choice.
