The fact people are saying different things, I think says the two are practically indistinguishable visually.

IGN Staff talked about the differences a little more on the podcast you posted a few pages back.

Hil said both versions run very well, but the PS3 version certainly has less issues. Another editor noted he saw less pop-in on the PS3 and Hil noted better anti-aliasing on the PS3. Hil thought the 360 version was brighter and the colors were better. Another editor said he thought the 360 version looked a little sharper in resolution (I thought this was an interesting comment).

I didn't hear anything about load times on the podcast, but Hil had this to say in his review: "Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often."

EGM says the PS3 is slightly more vibrant and sharper though.

Then you have these comments from Sam Houser

"There's a slight difference in the way they look. I think that's to do with really low-level technical stuff that I'm not the guy to explain. The 360 games have a certain look to them; PS3 games have a certain look to them. I like the way [the PS3] renders. There's a certain kind of softness without being blurry -- some warmth to it -- and then there's a certain more clinical element to how the 360 looks. Both have plusses and minuses. As far as I'm concerned, they're neck and neck now. That's very much our goal; we do not want to get in the middle of that rather heated, fervent debate.... These guys who wanna defend their systems, you know what? Good on 'em, and let them do it. We just didn't want to give them something that would in any way fuel it...."

So it seems like its more of a perception thing than anything. Either way I know I'll be happy with mine.

I would say so in regards to the look of the two versions. To me it seems like the only real differences are in the performance of some things; less pop-in, faster load times on the PS3 with it being able to use the HDD as another streaming source. Install file size on the PS3 is only 3.3MB. I'm not sure if it would be of a different size if the 360 could install too, but if it happened to not be, it's makes me wonder why Microsoft didn't step in and try to get an optional install on the 360. I think they should definitely allow optional installs in the future. I don't see what the big deal is, as long as, there not big.

I went to the Halo 2 and a few Maddens midnight releases (years ago)... I feel very strange standing with what could only be called a "diverse" crowd. After seeing who was there, I have not ever gone to a midnight release again.

                            1. how in the world can you say its "hand's down" the most when you haven't played the game?
                            2. is Saints row the only open worlds in gaming history or something? You use that as an example as if there never were games such as Oblivion, Morrowind, and all of those other open world rpg games in the history of gaming
                            3. is it really "dumb" anyway that they say dont say the most? Isn't that splitting hairs way too much?

well the fact that this game fits on a dual layer DVD should be hyped a hell of a lot more by MS. It was supposed to be a dying format for gaming compared to the OMG gigs on the bluray, and we get one of the best games in the past decade able to fit on it and run well. It makes bluray irrelevant to gaming, at least for this generation.

As for installs, does MS even have a game that requires the HDD? They are in more of a corner for that, as people either have a 20 gig HDD or none at all. Paying $100 for a 20 gig HDD is laughable enough, but $180 for their 120 gig is insane. **** proprietary HDD's. That's not a realistic option for most people. A few games with a 5 gig install would fill a 20 gig HDD up rather quickly when people have XBLA, movies, and game files on there.
