    PC Games

So, I am going to order a laptop from Dell soon (most likely tonight) and was wondering what are some good PC games to get, especially strategy/RTS games. I have Civilization IV, Black & White, and a RTS similar to Star Wars: Galactic Battleground (if I could find that, that would be awesome) on my list so far. Any impressions would be great!

Rome Total War and Medieval Total War 2-Still love those games-very good strategy/RTS stuff. I also like Homeworld 2-good space type RTS-If you can find H.W.2-it's pretty cheap in the bargain bins at Walmart.

The Total War games were exactly what I was going to recommend.

^^ what they said. Also, if you're into WWII and RTS you cannot skip Company of Heroes. It is a fantastic game. You can get the original plus the expansion (opposing Fronts) for $30 at Walmart or Target.

Company Of heroes is great-except-i bought the newer Opposing forces and it will NOT load it on my computer(freezes) and because they have that weirdo anti piracy coding,I cannot play the first one now because the new version overwrote and it has a file that I cannot delete and reload the first one. Has anyone else had this problem, and can you fix it?

            Galactic Civilizations II

In the 23rd century the known galaxy is at war. The Terran Alliance and their coalition are fighting a desperate interstellar war with the evil Drengin Empire and their ruthless allie.

You mentioned you liked Galactic Battlegrounds...

Did you try the other Star Wars RTS, Empire at War and its expansion EAW - Forces of Corruption?

More space-based, so maybe not what you're looking for, but there were land elements too.

Ditto. Greatest games I ever played...any console. Especially if you go to the Total War Center online and download some of the mods. I play with the Lands to Conquer mod and still play the game.

Yeah, I was searching through lists on Amazon and saw Company of Heroes was highly rated. Is that at typical RTS or what?

So, does anybody have any impressions on the Civilization/Sid Meier's games? I would like to pick up Civilization, just not sure which one to get. I figured IV since its the latest and got good reviews. Anybody have any impressions for Black & White vs. B&W 2?

TCrouch - exactly how much difference are the two Star Wars RTS games? I'm used to the ground-based RTS games, so not sure how I would far in space.

No idea on the differences. RTS games aren't my thing at all.

I had Black & White and B&W2, though...B&W2 fixes a lot of the original's problems (micromanagement, sluggish creature development) and was infinitely more fun for me personally.

Hey Tendrils, while I don't have the 'Empire at War' Star Wars RTS it does seem pretty cool (hero powers like 'Battle for Middle-earth') and it's cheap...I saw it for $10 at Target, possibly even INCLUDING the expansion pack.

I have bought all the civ games (and even Alpha Centauri, though I lost the disk and can't play it anymore, which makes me sad, and Colonization). If you are looking for a deep strategy game and do not mind turn based games, just get it. It is one of those games that is truely an experience. I have both B&W and B&W 2. I personally liked #1 better because the creatures were more their own "person" to where I don't really feel like the creatures in #2 do. However, #2 is the better game, I just don't enjoy it as much as 1. I would also add the Total War games are great. Rome is pretty good, especially once you find some of the mods for it (Europa Barbarorum is pretty good, but really big and very in depth). Medieval 2 is a really good game too, and I would say that is the better game than Rome, unless you care for the time period of Rome more (like I do).

I think I have to give the edge to Medieval 2 over Rome Total War. Especially since they released the "Kingdoms" expansion. Nonetheless-I would say get both! Rome TW can be purchased with all the extra expansions for pretty cheap now and the mod community is still very much alive. Medieval 2 does have more variety and better graphics right of the box. I have all the Total War series games going back to the original Total War and they will stay in my collection for good.

Davin, would you recommend Civ IV over the others? I'll probably pick that one up first.

CoH does look nice, too. I'll have to add that to the list.

Are there any (good) RTS games where you can control King Arthur? Big Art fan here, so yeah. I'll have to check out Medieval 2. I know Rome: Total War looks nice.

Thanks for the impressions guys, keep em coming.
