First thing I thought too, that's going to get really old really fast, not to mention ridiculously corny.

          IGN: Bayonetta Progress Report

So. Bayonetta. Why is she the new saviour of action gaming? Because she has the playfulness and versatility of Dante, but wrapped up in some of the most visually inventive combat we've seen in a long while. That and the fact that she's close to naked about half the time. (More on that in a sec.) It certainly bears the hallmarks of the game's director Hideki Kamiya, who was also director on the original Devil May Cry (not to mention Resident Evil, Viewtiful Joe and Okami). That alone suggests good things a'brewing... and it all comes together when you see it in motion.

As mentioned, this is a wildly inventive action game. Bayonetta is hugely versatile, with weapons secreted about her entire body - she has two guns strapped to her boots, but can also dual wield in her hands, or switch to a sword. Lightning fast melee attacks chain into weapon attacks, which chain into hair attacks. Yes, hair attacks. As you've probably heard, Bayonetta utilises her long black locks as a weapon. Numerous combos end with portals opening in the air, through which huge demonic fists or boots wreathed in hair punch or stomp through. The hair really comes into its own during the boss battles too. At the end of the first stage we were shown (which was a more polished version of the stage demoed at last year's E3), the hulking, cherub-faced boss is devoured in the gaping maw of a massive dragon, constructed entirely of shimmering, swirling strands of black hair.

Pre-E3 2009: Bayonetta Borders on the Ridiculous

For those of you who have already seen trailers of the game, the gameplay mechanics are very similar to those found in Devil May Cry. Bayonetta moves around lavish, 3D environments, fighting enemies with an assortment of flashy moves and powerful weapons. Battles are very arena-like, as you progress from one section of the stage to another in a fairly linear sequence. Clearly, the highlight of the game's design is not the environmental exploration but the action.

And what action it is. Bayonetta can equip weapons on both hands and both of her feet, making her an extremely versatile hero. There's nothing quite as badass as blowing away rabid cherub monsters with gun-stilettos, and such a thing is commonplace in the Bayonetta world. Not only can our warrior use these more common weapons, but her hair is also a weapon in and of itself. Bayonetta can use dark magic to transform her hair into giant fists and feet, crushing enemies with an incredibly slick attack. She can also create torture devices like guillotines and iron maidens to finish her enemies in one swift motion.
During the demo, the first level I saw was set in a charming European town, where a small train car scooted happily down the street. In the next instant, the train car is a flaming wreck, sliding down the cobblestone road as Bayonetta effortlessly jumps over the twisted wreckage and readies herself for an oncoming opponent. Two fiery, wheel-like creatures spin into view and begin the assault.

The entire sequence just oozes style. Bayonetta moves with an almost unnatural grace and fluidity, making the entire game a visual marvel. She quickly dispatches the creatures with a glowing whip and some assorted gunfire, all while a jazzy piano track plays in the background. Once the fiery wheels are defeated, Bayonetta is attacked by two cherub-faced giants, both wielding massive axes that would certainly scare off the average gunslinger. But not Bayonetta.
As the first set of battles came to an end, the player was ranked on the previous "verse," or section of the stage. After that, it was on to more crazy killing, but not before dropping by the Now Loading screen which is an empty room in which one can practice combos. A terribly underrated feature.

The second level of the demo is when my entire face was blown off by maximum awesome.

As was indicated in the recent "Climax" trailer, Bayonetta fights a horde of frightening angels... on top of a giant clock tower... as it's falling... and being attacked by dragons. This is an actual, playable stage and it puts all other action games to shame. As the crumbling clock tower plummets downwards besides a seemingly endless cliff, Bayonetta and countless angels duel in an incredibly awesome battle. The camera swoops around to highlight the action, huge rocks rip through the scene and the aforementioned two-headed dragon is there too.

Bayonetta Demo Set for October 8

Sega announced today a final availability date for its promised Bayonetta demo. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners will have access to the download on October 8.

Sega says that the PS3 and Xbox 360 demos will offer different stages. The actual content list provided by Sega, however, suggests that the only difference is an extra stage for 360 owners.

The PS3 demo, clocking in at 1,196MB, will include a tutorial and The Angel's Metropolis stage. The Xbox 360 demo, at 770MB, will include the tutorial, The Angel's Metropolis stage, and the Falling Clock Tower prologue stage.

Both demos will provide options for camera, sound and display adjustments.

Looking forward to checking this out.

Quite the spectaular show. Don't know what I did exactly or what happend but it sure looked pretty. The music is terrible but custom soundtrack took care of that.

There was jumping, guns, standing on her head shooting while spinning around,an iron maiden, guillotine, some chain thing,a giant axe, pulled a trumpet out of somewhere,I think some stuff blew up and the epic boss battle ending that I won't spoil.

                        I didn't think I'd like it but now it's a rental.

40 is a perfect score from Famitsu right? They tend to have different tastes in games than US Gamers.

Yes 40 is the perfect score there. They've been around since 1986 and this is only the 12th game to get a perfect score.
