Re: Rock Band 2
Start at 5:42. That's what you'll actually be playing, as a solo. So basically, a ton of people could very well fail out at that part if you don't hit it. But if you do, then you'll get bonus points just like a guitar solo.

Re: Rock Band 2
A review from someone that tried out both games at PAX...
Looks like GHWT didn't tighten the timing window at all. Makes me sad hearing about the drums timing window being that wide too. Kind of defeats the purpose if you're allowed to hit it whenever.
Also, no real sense in upgrading the RB drum set if it's not really that much of an improvement.
RB2 Instruments:
Drums
- A bit better built than the RB1 kit, but still not that great. At the console freeplay area, all three of the RB2 drumsets had the center circle of all pads bulging out already. Sensitivity is still not as high as I would like -- but this may be due to the center circle bulge. Note that this is only after one day of use (I checked out the console freeplay area on the second day of PAX). Despite this, it is still more sensitive than an X360 QM kit!
- There is less rebound than on a newer EL kit, but it is much, much quieter.
- The pedal feels much, much sturdier than the RB1 kit mainly from the huge metal reinforcement!
Guitar
- Frets a bit quieter than the RB1 strat, but not anywhere near silent. Strum bar was NOT clicky. This was consistent with all seven of the guitars on hand (6 at the console freeplay and one at the RB freeplay). If you already have a RB1 strat, I wouldn't bother upgrading.
- Paintjob/finish is very nice. Does not look cheesy at all!
GH:WT Interface:
- The interface is absolutely horrible. The shared starpower band meter is on the absolute top left of the screen, and that is the ONLY PLACE you can look at to see whether you can activate starpower. So if you're playing guitar/bass on the rightmost portion of the screen, you're screwed!
- Remember the fretboard sides glowing when you had starpower? If that was in GH:WT then the previous point wouldn't really be an issue. However, they changed it so that the fretboard sides glow gold when you have a streak, and removed the starpower glow altogether! For the first few times I played, I thought the gold glow indicated that I could use starpower, but that is not the case. Most of the time when I played, I just kept tilting for starpower whenever I could because I really did not know whether I had SP.
- At the song selection screen, you can create setlists of up to 7 songs on the fly. Quite a nifty little option.
- Lefty flip is chosen during the band assembly screen. You get a choice between 'standard' or 'lefty flip' when you choose your character.
- Interface looks unpolished, but I'm not certain whether the build shown at PAX has the finalised graphics.
Drums
- The build quality is significantly better than the RB2 stock kit. The cymbals are responsive, and everything just feels 'right'. However, the stock pedal has a tendency to move around as it is not anchored to anything. Furthermore, it is not possible to gauge the long-term build quality of the kit, as they replaced the cymbals after every few runs. The pads though held up quite well after three days of PAX! Rebound is about the same as on the RB1 stock kit, which is fine, I guess. I use a Roland e-kit at home for RB1 so I can't really judge.
- The drum timing window is HUGE. Think Guitar Hero 3 timing window for drums. Rolls are extremely easy to do -- which totally defeats the purpose of drums (keeping timing for the rest of the band). You can be completely off and it'll still be okay. This is not a good thing. What's the point in playing the well built drums when it doesn't even matter how well you play?
Guitar
- Frets feel the same as the LP. I guess if it ain't broken...
- Strumbar has the RB1 Strat pick notch, and is about the same length. So it's pretty much a duplicate of the RB1 Strat strumbar, except built with harder plastic and clicky (aka, what people wanted the RB1 Strat to be).
- The big starpower/palm mute button was annoying for me. I kept accidentally hitting it while strumming and thus activating starpower at inopportune times.
- Timing window on guitar is the same as in GH3. This is a bad thing.
- The notes are HUGE. WAY too big, given how little space you have in a full band. Annoying..
- The slidey parts? You can use the touchpad, but I didn't bother and just fretted the them normally. The timing window for the slidey parts seem to be even bigger than the normal timing window, maybe 1.5-2x bigger. So you can just spaz your fingers on the fret during these parts and you'll probably get all of them.
- Detachable neck.
- Spiffy finish -- again, not cheesy (aka, not a sticker!).
I played Hot For Teacher on guitar with my friend on drums, both expert, and we passed it on sightread! The singer was awesome, too -- he was rolling around on the ground by the end of it. The GH:WT peeps seemed very impressed
That's about it. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I probably won't be buying GH:WT -- it just seems way too dumbed down compared to RB. Sure the charts look harder, but you can just spaz your fingers (or your wrists, if you're playing drums) and you'll 5* it. This is not what a rhythm game should be, because, you know, a rhythm game should require a sense of rhythm.Originally posted by CardsFan27This is the 3rd time John Calipari has been to his first Final Four! What I'm Currently Listening ToComment

Re: Rock Band 2
Where/when are you guys getting RB2? I'm thinking about pre-ordering through Gamestop to get a free t-shirt (even though I hate GS). If it really is coming out on Sunday the 14th, I'll be real tempted to go to Wal-Mart at midnight. What are your plans?Comment
