Agreed. Let's turn a blind eye towards users of a paid service instead of dealing with the individuals directly. Allow them to continue their idiocy and ignorance.

You can police by having individuals play the game. MS has the tools to let staff have normal GT's, fake scores and the ability to possibly even record what is said. They designed the system and can police if they wanted to but you know this is certainly not the case. It would cause them to lose money and that's the real heart of the matter.

You keep mentioning the paid service, how do you police it then?

Say you, yourself, play with someone and they report that you used racial remarks, so MS bans you. Are you then pissed? Or are you fine with it, because it's a paid service and it's working? And what you are saying above is you're fine if MS is recording our private conversations on XBL?

It's not like MS can hear every word said in every game played. You're acting like since we pay $50 a year, that there should never be a discouraging word ever said on XBL.

I'm sure no one has ever used racial comments on WOW or other paid game services either right? If it was typed, then sure, there's a complete record of it, but a spoken word can't be policed unless a MS official hears it. There's been reports in the past of people sending text messages with racial comments in them, and those people ended up banned because there's then a paper trail.

I know you love to hate on MS all the time now, but come on, it's impossible to police every single comment on every single game....paid service or not.

Reporting shouldn't be a deciding factor and individuals that work for MS should be. They should be anonymous to anyone and explicitly obscene behavior should not be tolerated. Private conversations are completely different from an open game of 12 individuals.

It's pretty easy to police fake scores and gamertags as there's a record. You are saying you want MS to record conversations I take it? You are fine with them doing that?

I don't think it's about losing money if they were fine with wiping out people's gamerscores for cheating. (which I still feel is stupid, but whatever).

It's impossible to listen and have an ear on every conversation. If someone uses racial comments and 5 people report him on a given night, I'm sure it's looked into. If it continues, I'm sure that person is banned, I've seen people banned before. But if 1-2 people over a few month span report something, it could be out of spite, bitter for losing, etc.

When you have 10 million people on a service, it's hard to hear it all. No matter if we pay or not.

Microsoft already does police Live, i've read many articles in OXM on how they do it. EG is right though, it's unrealistic to expect them to police every game, there's just too many people. Ultimately they must rely on people reporting users who abuse the chat. And from reading this thread it seems like a lot of people have issues with other users but I don't read many posts saying they report people for it. Most users in this thread are just saying they avoid playing without people who aren't friends and if they do plan random people they don't use their headset or chat at all. If you don't report it then how can you complain about Microsoft not doing anything about it?

So you've obviously missed it. Instead of asking you take a personal shot; Nice.

You act as if I'm saying MS should police "private conversations" between two individuals. I never once said that. I'm sure people would not only be highly upset about that but it would also slow the network down.

I'm pointing solely the large scale games with public rooms where there are more than two individuals involved. You play a game of CoD4 or Halo or Gears and two guys are in there repeatedly yelling these sort of things we're talking about... you're telling me if MS had users that were "policing" the games that they can't suspend the account and hold the users accountable for their actions?

AOL used to do this EXACT thing in their chat rooms.

If you play a one on one game like Madden and if you experience it, you report the person as you do now. But in large scale games where multiple individuals can speak at one time? It gets dealt with.

Of course it's impossible to police every single thing that happens on Live. But this mindset that they can't do anything is being completely oblivious to the situation. If people knew they could get "kicked" or had consequences to their actions, you would see less of it.

What does AOL chat rooms have to do with XBL? Again, with written word, there's a paper trail, there is not one with spoken word.

Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. You spoke with your word and canceled XBL, that's all you can do. I only play with my friends and don't hear it, so it's no big deal to me.

But in playing online with the PC, PS3, PS2, XBL etc, I've heard it all for years, so XBL isn't the downfall or even the reason.

Hell, in Sessler's rant, he couldn't even resist to lowering himself by swearing himself, and I haven't watched it since the first day, but does he ever mention XBL in there, I didn't think he did, he's just sitting in front of an XBox.

Somewhere this topic changed from the racial slurs online (with all online games) to it's all XBL's fault because we pay for it.

You only play with your friends and don't hear it so you shouldn't even be in the conversation. You haven't experienced it so acting as if you can give your input and have it be valid is pretty obtuse. That's like giving your input on a section of a game you've never played.

Somehow we've taken a conversation that has swayed into MS can be more accountable for their paying users (similar to Blizzard and WoW and other online services) and made it a "hell-bent on hating MS" thread instead of productive discussion on how they can stop (or at least minimize) it.

He mentions XBL numerous times as to where he experienced these comments. He also mentions how this is in reference to random play, NOT playing with friends, which is what he is being forced to do in his opinion as a result.

I honestly wonder if you comment on things without experiencing them often. That's a poor way to base your opinion, attitude and actions, IMHO.

i don't see why people should expect less from PSN just because it is free. if your going to half-*** it just because we don't pay for it then don't even waste my time with it. the PSN is doing home, xmb, and all these other updates to make PSN better, they could of just left it alone and said, "You give me $$$, ill give you effort".

XBL is already doing its share to make it your moneys worth, and while i can see you wanting more out of them, i can't see you demanding more just because you sprinkled a couple of dollars towards them. lets not forget how much money you are saving and microsoft is losing just so you can have their product at an affordable price.
