If I'm a solid drummer by the time these games come out, I'm just going to put that money towards a real electric kit and take it to the next level.
I got hooked on the drums in RB so I just ordered an Alesis DM5 Pro electric drum kit. It's enroute right now via FedEx ground and I'm really psyched to try out my RB drumming skills on a real drum set. I bet there are quite a few people picking up drum sets these days as a result of RB.

That's awesome, man! Lemme know how that turns out.

Its funny, because guitar players are a dime a dozen, and drummers used to be really hard to find(cuz drums are more inconvenient, and less sexy than guitar) but I think this game has changed that in a big way all by itself. Definitely give an update on the board when you get your set and get a chance to play around with it.

Will do. There's a way to connect electronic drums to Rock Band but it involves cannibalizing your stock RB drum set. I may do that eventually, but I'll probably start out just playing along with songs in practice mode to get used to the different configuration.

In the meantime, a nifty way to "freestyle" is to put on the Who's Don't Get Fooled Again in practice mode, and only put on the organ intro. It's so long, that you're essentially playing a free drum mode with a snare, cymbal, bass and two toms. It's a fun way to loosen up and play with some beats and fills.
