    IGN Review - 9.4

Honestly, there's no way I could describe everything I love about BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger because I would be writing a novella. All you need to know is that this has become one of my favorite fighters of all time and the level of polish and detail this 2D wonder has is amazing. The character designs are excellent, the fighting mechanics are top-notch and there are even extra animated scenes that feature chibi (super adorable) versions of the characters talking about the BlazBlue universe.

I know BlazBlue is only targeting a certain type of fighting game fan, but I think the mechanics are cool enough to entertain anyone even remotely interested in the genre. I'm sure that once the community gets its hands on this game, the true test of balancing will begin and issues I might have missed might come to the surface. With that said, there's no escaping the fact that I had a blast playing BlazBlue and I encourage everyone to buy a copy.

It's something of a dream game for me, you see.

GI gave it a 7.75 if I'm not mistaken. Only knocks they had on it seemed to be the learning curve.

              Re: BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

it's not really that conventional... like there's moves and such but.. you can pretty much do your own combo's if you know what you're doing (not like the capcom vs. series where you have to do a certain combo).. it's like you can make up your own combos on the fly (or so it seems to me)

it seems you can link whatever to whatever if it's fast enough... you can also dash out of any attack you're hit with if your opponent doesn't hit you fast enough with more attacks and you can dash in any direction.

It also does some cool stuff like this one character (can't remember her name) she can put her staff on the ground with it standing, and she can jump on top of her staff and pull moves off from there... another character has a partner in the background who you can make attack your opponent..

etc, stuff like that. It feels a lot different from other fighting games I've played

An excellent review from a hardcore fighting game fan.

                          1UP Review - A

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger (pronounced "blaze," not "blahz") marks the debut of a great new franchise; it exhibits an inventive design that's bound to influence its competitors, an infectious sense of energy, and lots of promise. Developed by Arc System Works, better known as the creator of Guilty Gear, a 2D fighting series, BlazBlue is the "new kid on the block" in an arena crowded by fighters with a long legacies and devoted fanbases, namely the Street Fighters, the Virtua Fighters, and the King of Fighters (and don't forget the Tekkens and the Soul Caliburs!). It may be new, an unknown, but BlazBlue holds its own -- and even surpasses its competitors in many ways.

Making an entirely new game risks polarizing the existing fanbase, those most passionate for continuity. And community, like the Guilty Gear players on Dust Loop, are the lifeblood that sustain a company's legacy. Without the community, I doubt Guilty Gear would be relevant in the fighting game scene. But Arc System Works boldly faces those risks, and their gamble with BlazBlue more than pays off.

This game is just sick. If you like fighting games you will love it. At first I thought that 12 characters was a low number, but the depth in gameplay is phenomenal. And you can even SAVE fight replays you have with people online. I played a few players matches and saved a few replays of me getting beat down. I have a lot to learn, but it is really done well. The story mode is really cool too.

PS > You can have friend matches and up to six people in one room spectating when they are not fighting.

BTW, nice avy, though I'm still not sure if it's as good as "Round 1, Let's Rock!"
