Digital downloading will definitely be the future of all home entertainment IMO. The only problem with it right now is that that kind of bandwidth is not readily available to everyone. If someone wants to rent a movie or buy a movie, they are not going to want to wait an hour for it to download to their media center.

In 15-20 years when every home in America has fiber to the curb, this will definitely become a reality.

Personally I don't like DD. If there is a hard copy of what I want, I'm going with that. Not to mention prices are the same as of now or more for DD.

Warhawk and GTP cost the same as in store. I much rather have a hard copy. XBL movie downloads cost more than what you would pay in store or for a rental from Net Flix.

The only thing I like DD for is business applications.

I was in Hollywood the other day by me, XBL movie downloads were the same price as their rentals. $4 for a SD-DVD and $6 for a Blu-ray.

I've gone through numerous 360's, and each time have been able to download anything I once paid for at will. With purchases tied to your account, it's actually more safe than having a physical copy. I've had games crack in the drive before, I'm out $60 each. If the HDD got corrupted or even if my house exploded, I could download the stuff on a new 360 again for no cost.

As for price, again, not really an issue. While companies are moving away from retailers to sell digital copies, they now inherit some the cost of setting up and maintaining the systems for distribution. They probably do need to lower the price of digital games just to get people moving in that direction. They could also probably look into making some kind of online trading system to move rights of games between people. Online gamestop kind of thing.

I don't mind DD, but only if they get the DRM right. For a while I could not play using any downloaded content without being online due to MS's inability to move the license to another 360. Thankfully they've fixed this, but the issue is still one that makes me cautious of DD.

It's like on iTunes, whenever people buy stuff they always burn it onto a CD and then re-rip it to remove the DRM. I'm not saying that's the right way to do things, but as a consumer we need the flexibility to use things as we would if we had a hard copy (watch a movie at a friend's house, etc) and I'm not sure that is always there....

IMO it's an issue that all companies will face going forward into the digital age...piracy vs. letting people use the content as they should.

Unless XBLM has made some major changes, I was always under the impression that anything you purchase (in terms of media) has a expiration period.

If that's still the same your point is moot. Why would you want to download something tied to you account only to have to pay each time you want to play it after a certain amount of time?

Give me a tangible good any day of the week. Digital Downloads will never be mainstream with DRM, and that is something they can not get around in this day and age.

Rentals expire, but all of the TV I've bought is always there for me to watch it. It's quite nice.

Also nice is the plugin that works well with the 360 to stream movies from Netflix.
