based on the games you mentioned, probably not.

If you're looking for a game more routed in realism or simulation - this is something like those old microsoft flight simulator games but for combat.

Even some people who think they'd like it probably realize they don't once they start playing and there aren't 40 guys to shoot right away.

I like it, but there is no way to tell if someone else will.

I'm pretty much saying the 7.8 score from Metacritic is on point. It's by no means a 9/10 "must buy" type game at all. So in that sense I think people will/would be MUCH happier with it once the price comes down.

That said, there's really no other game that I've played that involves so much realism & tactical play. Playing on Hardcore from the beginning, I'm starting to realize that if you don't play it 100% serious - hyper-realistically, if you will - you're going to die. Plain and simple. That fact alone is a selling point for some people, I'm sure, but tedious, frustrating and boring to others.

Like I said above, I think the game's effin sweet; but that doesn't mean I'm comfortable saying "yeah, definitely, buy it."

I agree.. I thought I'd like it more, but it's just a little bit slow (it takes a lot of time/patience) for my tastes.. don't get me wrong, its a GREAT game, but with all the awesome games coming out in October and November, it's hard to see this one getting any play.. i mean.. Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2, Assassins Creed 2, NBA games, etc.. My wallet will be a hurtin.

I should get my copy in the mail tomorrow. I'm excited. I love the COD4 type games but also loved the Brothers in Arms games, which tried to do what this game does but still kept it kind of arcady. I'm excited. I'm sure I'll get frustrated, but at worst, I'll put it down when Cod comes out and re-start around Christmas when I'm at home and on a bigger TV.

I have enjoyed the game quite a bit even with it's flaws and bugs. The more you play the more the game grows on you as you become more comfortable with the controls. I can see why some people may dislike the game as it is totally different than a COD and you have to be patient and not run & gun. I enjoy the COD series but I don't want every game to be a clone which this isn't. The graphics aren't terrible but could be better but the game is more focused on the style of play than the way it looks. I rented the game and may pick it up at some point especially if their is a price drop in the future which I could see happening depending on how it sells.

As I stated before, if you played the first OFP or ArmedA and liked them, then you will like this one. The originals had pretty much the same flaws as this one, so you know what you are getting into.

Really if you are on the fence, rent it or wait for it to get cheaper. As much as I am enjoying this game, it is not a title to go out and buy right away.

Second, this game is right in my wheelhouse. I love it. Home freaking run. To me, it's like playing Hitman (one of my favorite games/series) but with military.

Third, allBthere, I just started right off with Hardcore, so no saves or yellow markers for me.

But yeah, I can see where this game wouldn't be for everyone, but, like I said, it really is just my kind of game. Couldn't be happier.

Literally the only thing bothering me is that there's only 11 missions? Wish there was more. Hope there's DLC. I'll be all over it if there is, especially since I got the game for free.
You had me at Hitman. I will definitely give this a rental.

Stole this from a post on the Xbox Forums...

                  2. Fire Team Formations
                  a. Column
                  (1) Used when speed is essential and enemy contact is not probable, or the enemy position is known.

                  (2) Permits rapid, controlled movement.

                  (3) Favors fire and maneuver to the flanks.

                  (4) Vulnerable to fire from the front and provides the least amount of fire to the front.

                  (5) The formation is organized rifleman, team leader, automatic rifleman, and assistant automatic rifleman (ready, team, fire, and assist).

                  (6) The ready will start to the left and alternate right then left covering
down behind the Marine in front of them and at least ten meters in between you and the Marine in front of you.

                  (7) At night, each member of the column is close enough to maintain visual contact with the Marine in front of them.

                  b. Wedge
                  (1) Used when enemy contact is probable, and/or enemy position is unknown.

                  (2) Permits good control of the formation.

                  (3) Provides all-round security, in all directions.

                  (4) Formation is flexible; Marines are able to move quickly into other formations.

                  (5) Fire is adequate in all directions.

                  (6) Team leader and assistant automatic riflemen can be on either side.

                  (7) The formation is organized ready, team, fire, and assist in a counter clockwise direction.

                  (8) The Marines are at least ten meters apart.

                  (9) At night, the Marines stay close enough to maintain visual contact.

                  c. Line
                  (1) Used when the location and strength of the enemy are known. For example, during the assault, when mopping up, or when crossing short open areas.

                  (2) Maximum firepower to the front.

                  (3) The formation is organized by teams, in order. The first team is in the
middle, the second team to the left and the third team directly to the right of the first team. No team is covered down on another. All teams are in a fire team wedge. The Marines are positioned at least ten meters apart.

                  (4) At night, Marines stay close enough to maintain visual contact with the Marine in front of them.

                  (5) The squad leader positions himself directly behind the middle of the teams, but he may move throughout the squad to maintain control.

                  (6) The formations of the fire teams are determined by what side of the squad they are on and the assessment of the squad leader.

                  d. Vee

                  (1) Used when the enemy is to the front and his strength and location are known. May be used when crossing large open areas. Primarily used as a final formation before coming on line in the assault.

                  (2) Facilitates movement into squad line.

                  (3) Provides excellent firepower to front and flanks.

                  (4) Provides all-round security, so there is firepower in all directions.

                  (5) The formation is organized by teams, in order. The first team in the middle, the second team to the left and in front of the first team, the third team directly to the right and in front of the first team. No team is covered down on another. All teams are in a fire team wedge. The Marines are at least ten meters apart.

                  (6) At night, Marines stay close enough to maintain visual contact with the Marine in front of them.

                  (7) The squad leader positions himself in the middle of the teams, but he may move throughout the squad to maintain control.

                  (8) The formations of the fire teams are determined by what side of the squad they are on and the assessment of the squad leader.

Its the little brother with the lazy eye to ArmaII if you are looking for true dynamic military sim . Its good for consoles I guess, but I would personally stick with ArmaII for PC. In its current offering.

Its hardly as sandbox as ArmaII. In fact, its hardly as sandbox as the original OFP. That is not to say its bad, but its no ArmaII.

I bit the bullet and bought it today. I like it so far, it is a lot more strategy involved then I thought it would be, which is a good thing. The controls are kind of throwing me off, but over time it will become second nature to me.

Hardcore is the only way to go. I like the Ghost Recon games but this is way more strategic. This is a game that snuck up on me because I hadn't heard anything about it until I saw a few of my friends online playing.
