    Re: E3 - Operation Flashpoint2 - hardcore fps

They're absolutely tearing me apart when I "attempt" to defend the village on mission 3.
There is no place like Nebraska
    Dear old Nebraska U.
Where the girls are the fairest,
    The boys are the squarest,
Of any old school that I knew.
There is no place like Nebraska,
    Where they're all true blue.
    We'll all stick together,
    In all kinds of weather,
    For Dear old Nebraska U!

Won't change this signature until Nebraska wins the National Championship...posted 8/16/05

      Re: E3 - Operation Flashpoint2 - hardcore fps

I'm sure you guys have these extra missions already unlocked.. but incase you don't.. here there are.. Also, these are a bit shorter than campaign stuff so if you don't have much time to play, these are perfect for some quick action!

I've been practicing on these a bit before I hop into the campaign. I played the one with the lighthouse about 5-6 times last night, each time using a different strategy.. some worked, others failed miserably. I'm really enjoying the game so far.

      1. Open The "Bonus Codes" menu in game
      2. Type in your bonus code:
      3. Your mission, is unlocked!

        Encampment
        code OFPWEB1

Controlling a Spec Ops team, this FTE tasks players with ambushing a PLA campsite in the dead of night.

Set in a heavily forested area, players must move cautiously between tree cover, with the PLA fanning out and trying to flank at every opportunity. A fierce and atmospheric firefight, mixing long-range marksmen shooting and close quarters combat around the campsites.

        Debris Field code OFPWEB2

Set amongst the vehicle wrecks from an earlier battle players must lead their fire team through the strewn vehicle wreckage, seeking cover wherever they can, and engage superior numbers of PLA forces assaulting their position.

The player must work with their fire team to ensure that the large numbers of PLA don’t flank them at any time, stay mobile and use fully automatic weapons, grenades and grenade launchers to suppress the enemy at every opportunity.

        Night Raid code RaidT18Z

Players take control of a Spec Ops team, assaulting PLA units defending a key infrastructure asset on the Island. Using night vision, giving the player’s fire team better visual range than the PLA defenders, players can choose whether to move slowly and stealthily, at the risk of the location being reinforced, or “go loud” and move quickly, but blowing the cover of night.

        Coastal Stronghold code StrongM577

Players assume control of an infantry fire team, raiding a key PLA coastal defensive position. Once the PLA defenders have been eliminated, the player will have to organize their fire team to hold the location from PLA counter attacks, improvising defensive positions and using any fixed weapons they can find to tip the balance in their favor.

        Ambush code AmbushU454

Surrounded and outgunned, players control a lone infantry fire team, tasked with holding a village against waves of PLA attackers. With the PLA assaulting from 360 degrees, players must use their fire team to cover all the directions, using defensive cover offered by the village to hold off the attacking force. Players will use building defensive positions, fan their fire team out among st the village and constantly position their fire team to offer optimal protection against the attacking PAL force.

        Close Quarters code CloseQ8M3

A bold daytime raid on a village, the players assume control of an infantry fire team tasked with flushing the PAL out of a village location. The PLA are already dug into strong defensive positions, and reinforcements will be on their way, so players must move swiftly to eliminate the PLA inside the village before holding off reinforcement waves from within the village. Using CBQ weaponry, grenade launchers and anti-vehicle weapons, this is a fast-paced and intensive FTE featuring building destruction and close quarters combat.

After apprently having been shot by my own guys twice and MY bullets apprently not being able to travel any sort of distance (the AI's do) I have taken the strategy of hiding behind a rock and telling them where to shoot because nothing else works. What tremendous fun! Especially when they aren't bothered to find cover or help each other.

          Good thing it's a 1 day rental.

Spent the last hour or so reading the official OFPDR forums ... lol ... makes the NCAA & Madden forums here look tame in terms of backlash. People are effin ticked! lol

Ironically, I'm still interested in trying it for myself. Going to see if I can rent it later tonight.

the thing is it's not affecting everyone. I haven't seen any bugs really. I'm trying to think and can't...it's more the mission structures of a couple of missions that I don't like, and how you only get saves by following the yellow way points by the book. More times than not, the best strategy isn't going from yellow point to yellow point. - but you get saves that way so...

                Re: E3 - Operation Flashpoint2 - hardcore fps

Well, first of all, the girlfriend bought me this puppy ... Three cheers for cool chicks.

Second, this game is right in my wheelhouse. I love it. Home freaking run. To me, it's like playing Hitman (one of my favorite games/series) but with military.

Third, allBthere, I just started right off with Hardcore, so no saves or yellow markers for me.

But yeah, I can see where this game wouldn't be for everyone, but, like I said, it really is just my kind of game. Couldn't be happier.

Literally the only thing bothering me is that there's only 11 missions? Wish there was more. Hope there's DLC. I'll be all over it if there is, especially since I got the game for free.

The only bug I saw was an AI teammate getting stuck on a rock or possibly for a few seconds. I got shot at when I had the map up so that's it for this. It's even cheaper difficulty wise than I had expected.

Speaking on the PC versions. How does this compare to Armed Assualt II?

Can you change difficulty after you've started a Campaign? Does Hardcore in SP make it a lot more difficult?

                        Re: E3 - Operation Flashpoint2 - hardcore fps

I'll just steal it from wiki...

Difficulty levels are differentiated not by changes in AI or weapon damage but by the visual information given to players. At the easiest level, standard FPS information is given to the player about weapons, ammo, squad health, compass direction along with cross hairs via a HUD. Additionally the location of enemies who have been spotted by the player's squad is indicated at the lowest level. Higher levels of difficulty remove this information until none is left on screen. Ammunition counts must be remembered as well as the health of the squad. Locations of enemies must be determined by listening to AI squad mates and using other visual cues like the direction they are firing. At high difficulties visual effects become more important, particularly at long range where smoke or dust can help to identify areas which are dangerous. At any difficulty level the player may be killed by a single shot, though according to designers, it is not always the case.

Each Mission is about 45-60 minutes long, its pretty much par for the course.

So is this a game a must buy or not ?????? Kind of on the fence about this game. I like COD4, RBSV2, Brothers in Arms, etc. Hell even liked Black back on the PS2.

So should I buy it now or wait until it drops to $40 ?
