I picked this up over the weekend (ps3) but I'm still on the fence of wether to open it yet or not. I got the last copy at BB so i guess that says alot. I'm going to go through the thread and see some impressions before I rip into it.

I'm getting a bit frustrated. I'm at a point where the enemies I'm facing are two or three levels higher than me and I can't seem to kill them.

Grind against lower levels until you level up or have someone of a higher level join your game and help out.

Got ya. So instead of doing missions right now, just keep playing until I level up and then go back to the missions? Sounds good.

            Re: Borderlands

Game is a lot of rinse and repeat, same ol' same ol'... but it's a lot of fun. I haven't put a ton of time in it though. I'm at a level 9 (close to 10) but with NBA2K10 and my online Madden franchises I haven't had a lot of free time. I see myself keeping this game and going back to it. I haven't been able to play co-op anyway.

I may start over with another character. Really, with the solider I'm using, I was just messing around, trying to figure out the ins and outs of the game. What character do you guys think is the best to use?

I've only tried 2 characters, so not sure what's the best...I like the Siren, though I still use phasewalking more as a reactionary power than a quality offensive power. Once I get the length of recharge down it'll help. I like the aspect of the Siren where I could up my chances to get the environmental damage. I primarily use the environmental weapons because guys get set on fire or whatnot pretty often now that I spec-ed that out. It just depends on how you want to play.

I've got a lvl 7 hunter, that seemed cool (and more suited to my playstyle), the bird can do some crazy damage.

I saw Shawn's turret twice when we played, that seemed cool. No clue on the bruiser's power.

The game is a grind, rinse/repeat, but it makes it fun. I don't mind grinding through a long mission to kill someone. New weapons and whatnot just make it cool, it's great incentive. Once you get higher in level you won't have the mission issue...just have to get to that point, the game starts off slow and ramps up as you go.

                Re: Borderlands

I've only played through the game one time (both playthroughs) as a hunter and I would say the experience was more annoying than difficult.

Once you start investing points in Bloodwing battles become a heck of a lot easier. Depending on the skills you invest in, Bloodwing can bring you back a % of health which is converted from the damage he did when you sent him out, make enemies drop extra loot, stun, daze, and slow down enemies giving you an easy target to shoot at. That combined with the Bird of Prey skill (which determines how many targets BW will attack) can slow down the entire force coming at you giving you time to find cover and get good shots off.

                  Re: Borderlands

I'm using the Brick character (level 33 or so) and going through mobs like a hot knife through butter. Similar to what others have posted, I use mainly shotgun and sniper rifle. I found an orange-con incendiary sniper rifle a while back and I have a purple steel shotgun that sets mobs on fire as well. I haven't really leveled up the Berzerk power, as I only really use it to regain health when I'm close to the brink against really tough mobs, but the Brick does feature a lot of perks that give bonuses to damage and defense when you kill something. So if you keep killing things and have those up continuously, along with the Unbreakable perk, you can just keep chewing through mobs like an unstoppable beast. It's a good time.

As others have posted the game does get a little repetitive, but I'm still having an absolute blast with it. One of the only games in recent memory that keeps me coming back to play it more.

How are you guys finding similar guns when the game boasted that there are like a million combinations of weapons?

I mean, I understand that every now and then someone on OS will have the same exact gun, but I've seen a few comments asking where to find Weapon A or how to get to Weapon B.

                    Am I confusing something?

I own the game, but it's still wrapped. I want to beat Uncharted 2 and then Batman Asylum first.

There are some unique guns out there, but otherwise I see a wide variety (different scopes fire rate, etc)

The thing with the similar guns, based on my understanding, is that all the bosses have the same guns no matter how many times you beat them. So as you play through, everyone will get those same weapons and due to the fact that everyone HAS to do those side missions, it makes sense that a lot of people would stumble across those same weapons.

well, the thing is with this game, you may get the same gun(same name at least) but the stats will be different. when the gun drops, the stats are randomly set based off your level i believe. when I played through with a friend(who was still on his first play through), the guns that dropped from bosses were a lot better than when I got them.

After a week I'd say this game is for sure much fun, but if you're not a grinder I don't recommend it. My personal taste prefers something with more story like Fallout 3. I also enjoy the combat in Fallout 3 much more as well as the visual effects.

This game like many have said is all about the weapons. But I find my self playing for shorter and shorter stretches where I'm almost getting bored. It's a great Gamefly though for sure. For me the perfect rental, but it is losing it's legs.

Getting new guns is addictive though so I see the allure, I guess the grind starts to wear on me a little bit.

I can understand that...for some reason the grind has been fun just killing guys and completing missions, but it's definitely not as deep story wise as Fallout 3.

If WoW had combat as entertaining as Borderlands, that might be the end of me. I didn't play for more than 40 hours because the actual gameplay was pretty dull, and I probably won't play Borderlands for more than 40 hours because the grindy bits are pretty shallow. But if those two games' strengths ever merged, oh hell.
