Braid (XBLA)
Anyone buy this? I'm tempted to but the price is a bit outraegeous. 1200pts?!? I've been hearing nothing but good things though. I believe it has a score of 90 on Metacritic. The demo was pretty sweet.Tags: None -
Re: Braid (XBLA)
yeah, people have been posting about it in the XBL thread in the console forum.
It's $15 for an inventive game that makes you say whoa when you finally figure out a puzzle after plenty of tries. If you liked portal, or even a game like Professor Layton on the DS, then this is a must buy. It's fun to just tinker around with the abilities and solve the puzzles.
I don't think $15 is too much for a game that's so much deeper than the $5 old genesis or arcade games. The service needs to expand with more unique titles, and people supporting this game if they love it will only help bring more quality titles.Last edited by bkfount; 08-07-2008, 08:31 PM. -
Re: Braid (XBLA)
Braid would have sold like crazy at 10 bucks IMO, but I understand them putting it at $15 after Space Giraffe bombed.
Although, Space Giraffe also sucked hard, so that could have had something to do with it. Either way, it's still one of the best games of 2008 so for me, $15 is a steal.Comment

Re: Braid (XBLA)
When you think of all the money that people spend on ****ty games it surprises me when there are so many complaints about Braid being $15.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

i can't figure out how to get the puzzle on 'hunt' because it seems impossible even jumping off the brains dude. do you get powers later on that let you revisit old areas to get things that were previously unreacheable??Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Start at the top and work your way down. There's a specific order to take out all the Goombas.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

That being said, it's horrible that they're referring to the "Space Giraffe disaster" as the reason to raise prices.
When you make a game that sucks that hard then you deserve to lose money...it's like a movie no one goes to. Raising the price isn't the solution to that problem.
Braid's worth it at 15, and I'm glad I purchased it...I just hope developers don't just automatically put any game (especially games not worth that much by far) at 15 bucks hoping to recoup from the people willing to pay no matter what.
I do think people are complaining more just because game prices have been skyrocketing in general the past 5 years and people don't want to keep paying more for the same product they got cheaper yesterday...Plus for every Braid there's a Undertow or Space Giraffe.Last edited by mgoblue; 08-08-2008, 07:23 PM.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

I think I've decide I will buy the game. I played the trial again last night and finally solved the entire puzzle for the first level. The game is just ingenious.
While I still think that the game is worth $15, like many of you have pointed out, I still don't think it's a good price point from a marketing angle. Also like others have said, they wouldn't have thought twice about buying the game at $10. XBLA has been a $5 and $10 system for pretty much it's entirety, with I think maybe one exception, Roboblitz maybe? Then they come out with Penny Arcade at $20 was it, a game which will be sold in several 'episodes'.
Sometimes I wondering who is really running MS's Live marketing department. Some games that maybe were worth $10 a year ago, people still waited, and now they are still $10. Cloning Clyde is a personal example. While I liked the game I had too many games on my plate to justify spending $10 for that game. Here it is over a year later and it's still the same price. If it had dropped to $5 I would've bought it no problem. I shouted for bargain XBLA titles for quite some time and MS finally did it. But they only reduced the price of a handful of games several months ago and the list has no expanded since.Comment

Re: Braid (XBLA)
My problem is I can't figure out how to even get to the top. Or we're talking about 2 different areas. I'm just doing the trial..I've come to the conclusion that you can't get all of the available puzzle pieces in the trial version, because something must change in the full version to allow you to get to some spots.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Spoilers in white...
You know the place where the giant puzzle is that you can manipulate? Well, you should have enough pieces to start putting it together and on of the pieces creates a platform. Then wait for the goomba thing that is on the level above to the left to walk towards the portrait. Juts before he reaches it press B to enter the portrait mode and then manipulate the platform over to the left so that when you re-enter the game the goomba falls onto it. Then re-enter the portrait and move the platform far right so that that when you re-enter the game the gooma falls off onto the ground you are standing on. Run over to the right and bounce off it's head to reach the piece above the doorway. Then add that piece to the puzzle and you can make the platform longer so that you can now use the platform in the portrait to reach the last piece that is at the far upper right corner of the screen.
Hope that helps.Comment

Re: Braid (XBLA)
no, each world is independent with the powers you use. Once you learn to use the shadow guy of yourself, it only works in the levels it's meant to. Everything can be achieved using what you're given in that particular level. It just takes some tinkering or trial and error.Comment
