Re: Did anybody here about this new system callled the Phantom?
Did any of you guys click on the link? The information on all this came out in January so it is not an April Fools Joke from Gameinformer. They are just a few month slow in reporting the news.
Is it real? Who knows? But they claim it will be out in December 2003.
Once again the link
LINK TO THE PHANTOM
Monthly Subscriptions, Game Rentals, Individual Game Sales, Games on Demand, Peripheral Sales, Publisher Channels and Multi-Player Events. Consumers control their game play with the Phantom!
The most robust gaming console
A state of the art design and architecture
A large number of preloaded games that appeal to a wide variety of users and to their specific gaming needs
Online connectivity for multi player gaming
The ability to play against PC gamers online
Seamless upgrades and patch management
A multi tiered subscription service that meets the needs of casual, moderate and hard-core game players
The opportunity to demo games before purchasing or subscribing
And up to 50,000 games to choose from
They do not mention anything about GAME CONSOLE games. So one would be lead to belive this is a console setup to play PC games. They do mention cross platform, but that could mean different PC, Mac or even different genres. They could always sign deals with MS, Sony, Sega and Nintendo to use their games.
I mean Blockbuster rents out games for each console so this would just be a different way.

Its not a joke, the thing is if its really going to come out. Very awesome concept. I was trippin when i saw there is no place to put the game, but i didn't realize that you download the game on to a harddrive. You know how much money we'll be saving money on games now??? No distrubution cost, or production of making games. I remember Sega did something with a cable company where you can play games from them. It was a long time ago, i can barely remember, but same concept. Anyone remember that? This was for the Sega Genisis.
I hope its not an expensive membership subscription. We'll jus have to wait and see.Comment
