Yeah...just saying that a single player mode much shorter than Halo 3 (according to reviews), a few new maps, etc...just seems more like DLC similar to Fallout 3, maybe 20 or 30 bucks worth...Assassin's Creed came out 2 years ago and they're giving people a new game for 60, COD4 was 2 years ago and COD MW2 is a new game, new engine, new single player, new maps, etc...Halo gets away with this and I don't quite get why.

I don't blame Bungie though, it's Halo, they could charge whatever they want and people will buy it...

      Re: Halo 3: ODST

Most reviewers obviously played on normal or easy. Just like ODST (from the reviews) Halo 3 can be finished in 4-5 hours on those settings. I finished Halo 3 on Herioc in 7 hours, which is what a couple of reviews have mentioned like Kotaku that it took them to finish ODST on that setting.

This wasn't a 2 year project, it was 14 months with a team of 20 or so. They had to use an existing engine. As far as price, that's Microsoft's call. I don't think ODST is getting away with anything either. It's easily the lowest aggregate scored Halo game from Bungie (it's close to Ensemble's Halo Wars), and that mainly has to do with value of the package being questioned by a lot of reviews.

FYI, Toys R Us is offering a $20 gift card and a Rookie action figure with the purchase of ODST.

I dunno, the value seems fine to me compared to other $60 games. If campaign is 4-5 hours, possibly longer on harder difficulty, plus you get the firefight mode. Then add in (which I could care less about) Halo 3's entire multiplayer package including all DLC maps, and the $10 pack which hasn't come out yet, it's a good deal.

This is easily my most anticipated Halo game. Loved Halo 1, Halo 2 was crap, and Halo 3 got boring fast. This one, taking out Master Chief is what excites me. Can't wait to play it.

Yeah, I guess I understand...part of it just stems from the fact I'm in the minority that was disappointed in Halo 2.5, I mean Halo 3, so 2 years later I'd expect a bit more. I should just not expect much for me from the Halo franchise, since they seem to lag a bit behind except in all their online options...

I agree, if we are getting 6-8 hours out of the main game w/ Firefight and all the H3 DLC than this is not a bad deal at all. I enjoyed Halo 1, but after that with each passing Halo title I was getting aggravated with this franchise. H3 just didn't live up to expectations. It is nice to hear that this title plays more like H1.

Just went down to Gamestop today to pre-order this. I'm a big Halo fan so there is no way I can't get it. I'm looking forward to Firefight the most though. Playing online with 3 other friends with the Covenant chasing us around will be nasty.

I really like Firefight.. the graphics aren't anything to drool about but firefight with 4 buddies on Heroic is challenging and most importantly FUN.

A few corny pics I took from firefight. I like how each wave provides a new challenge (after 24 minutes, we've only gotten up to the melee to regain stamina challenge)

Guess it just depends on the perspective, for somebody like me...I never bought any of the multiplayer maps for Halo 3 so it's a good value for me.

                            EDGE Review - 9

Halo is all about these epic, flowing battles and ODST has some of the series’ most jaw-dropping. It may be the shortest Halo game – it takes a little over six hours to finish on Heroic difficulty – but that time is spent in one of the richest and, most surprisingly, varied campaigns so far. And don’t place too much emphasis on that six hour figure. Thanks to Microsoft’s restrictive review process, we were forced to play with an eye fixed on finishing the campaign quickly – running from place to place without exploration, and passing checkpoints without taking time to defeat every enemy in an area.
Mombasa itself is perhaps the game’s greatest departure: an enormous, grand vision of urban war that’s never been quite so central a part of Halo before.

Most of it’s closed off at first, of course – connecting to the AI that controls the city, the Superintendent, starts you off on the merry-go-round of waypoints that drive ODST’s big moments. You’re looking for traces of the other members of your squad, and when you find an artefact it triggers self-contained ‘flashback’ levels telling that soldier’s story. For lesser games this would merely be a narrative conceit: for ODST it’s the structure that allows an exploration of every major weapon variety and strategy in the Halo universe. Your colleagues are divided according to type and, while there’s hardly anything original in having a gruff chum who’s a ‘heavy weapons guy’, these are the foundations for set-pieces that both demand and exploit a particular breed of playing. It’s a simple tactic, but the panache with which it’s executed is thrilling: ODST could have been more accurately named The Halo Variations.

After the first two missions you’re free to roam Mombasa and track down the remaining artefacts in any order you choose, unravelling the story behind each team member’s disappearance, finding audio logs and piecing together what’s happened. The Halo universe has never been short of a thundering story, but here there’s a thread of mystery that adds a welcome undercurrent to the alien apocalypse, and the strands weave together into a neat window on a Chief-less world. It’s not Far Cry 2 – there are no bold leaps into the unknown future of that maligned beast, the FPS narrative – but there’s no doubt ODST offers the most engaging and least flabby chapter of Halo’s mythos.
