Your top 10 video game pet peeves.....

Sorry if this doesnt belong here...move it accordingly...but here are mine...

1. Juggle combos in fighting games
2. "Protect" Missions (I dont know what game started this, but curse it!! Why is the person your protecting always so stupid?)
3. Unskippable(word?) FMV's
4. Game levels w\ a whole bunch of bugs as enemys..
5. Games that are rediculously dark
6. Levels were there is no possible way to find out where to go next w\o a strategy guide or a lucky guess
7. Driving\ Flying missions in games where it just doesnt belong....(See most RPGS)
8. Off screen ledges that your required to jump on.....
9. Games where the player runs incredibly slow, even pressing the run button
10. Bosses who stand over you and lugh after killing you, or enemies who stand over you and shoot you after you die

Number 2 is one of my biggest pet peeves of all time.

Number 10 all started with me with the game Duck hunt...you would have that stupid dog who would just laugh at you everytime you missed. Only God knows how bad I wanted to shot that dog lol.

I agree that number 2 is really annoying, mainly because the AI of the target subject is lacking.

AI that "cheats". As in, they can see the entire map in an RTS, or they can score at will when they need to, or they can magically see through the wall and know where you are, etc.

Don't get me started on protect missions.

I don't have ten, but...

-lack of customization..let us choose! Those who don't want to choose can still NOT choose

-warping of any kind in sports games

-CPU not making mistakes...too much RoboQB, Roboracer, Robofighter, roboshooter...they need to start having the CPU panic and show some error, rather than being so predictable. Difficult, but let the CPU take risks and gamble.

-effeminate, androgynous male leads. Enough already.

-short brown hair, 5'oclock shadow Jack Bauer knock offs. At least try to design a character.

2,3,5,6 of the OP really bother me, as well as extremely long load times in games where it is possible for you to die repeatedly. I thought that load times would have dwindled down to nothingness in the new generation of consoles, but boy was I wrong for the most part.

1. escort missions
2. laggy online play
3. confusing menus
4. limited options, especially for controls
5. idiots online (ie little kids, racists, people who think the mic is an invitation to be annoying, etc.)
6. poor AI
7. people that complain about stuff that was purposely put in a game and able to be countered (ie juggernaut perk in COD 4/5)
8. when features that were in a previous version of the game are left out of future iterations for no reason
9. poor online lobby/matchmaking systems
10. patches that are slow to come or nonexistent altogether

- inability to save anywhere and/or lack of level checkpoints
- not having a clue where to go next
- games that drastically adjust difficulty mid-game (a la Mortal Kombat)
- lack of customization
- completely linear, lack-of-replay-value gameplay
- wonky controls / poor control scheme
- lack of inverse pitch option
- cheating AI
- overused gameplay gimmicks
- games that offer nothing new

1. Protection/escort missions or anything else where you're held responsible for entirely idiotic AI that makes it game over WHEN they die or anything else that happens that's not directly your fault resulting in a game over.

2. Anything that's a massive departure from the main game and you're forced to do. Such as stealth mission in an all out action game,driving mission in a stealth game,collecting coins in a snowboarding game.

3. Poor/ugly character design/style/clothing. I can't stand Seth in Lost Oydssey after seeing her early design with the cool blue hair and that outfit,now it's some ugly yellow thing and she has gray hair,speaking of her...

4. Poorly named characters.

5. Uncreative or uninformative instruction books.

6. As mentioned in the Dead Space topic...the lift NEVER works and <b>you</b> ALWAYS have to fix it.

7. (Applys to most open world games) No one saw me do it but here come the cops/gaurds anyway!

8. The door is locked. The key is all the way back in the first area. You have a gun/chainsaw/baseball and instead of using them to open it apprently makes more sense to go all the way back to the start of the game to get it. (ObsCure got this right,window made of glass? Smash it!)

9. Bad customization,better than none at least.

10. Online achivements/trophies.

Seen this one tonight while playing Saints Row 2 and it always irked me. Chase missions where the little banner pops up at the top of the screen that says " hurry up he's getting away", yet I can STILL see the car right in front of me.

10 hrs or less gameplay time
Escort Missions
"Limited Editions" that contain crap
Bad voice acting
AI that taget only me when there are multiple people on my "side" in the area
AI that knows where I'm at when they should have no clue where I'm at
Idiot AI teammates
Lots of backtracking

1) First-person shooters with no alternate control options for invert y-axis or left-stick turning.

2) I guess I've been spoiled, but anything below 60 frames per second.

3) Catch-up AI logic, where the CPU "cheats" to help themselves.

4) Linearity. I don't mean side-scrollers, I mean in the story. I know that's pretty much all we have, but I hate those kinds of games that "wait" for you in order for it to move on... makes it feel very static.

5) Freezes!



Don't really have a 10 that comes to mind right now.

Levels that involve lots and lots of jumping. Those can be so frustrating and are usually pointless.
