Strange - because I played plenty of RPGs before I even touched Final Fantasy VII; and I think it's by far the best in the series.

In fact, I'd go as far as saying that the Final Fantasy series as a whole is greatly overrated, and VII is the only good game in the series... Although, some of the Pre-VII games were good; but all the ones after it are crap.

It's an opinion, Timmay, and just like ***holes, everybody has one.

In my book, FFX and FFXII surpassed FFVII as next gen Final Fantasy titles, with FFIV and FFVI far surpassed it in the previous generation.

Other RPGs that are better than the so-so translated, character development lacking, crappy ending, over melodramatic death of Aerith, and vapid second half of FFVII are, in my opinion (sorry, have to to again remind everyone):

Suikoden
Lunar: Eternal Blue
Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana
Secret of Evermore
Earthbound
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Mario RPG
Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals
Breath of Fire 2
Shadowrun (Genesis)

Note, that every single one of them came out before FFVII.

I'm not arguing that FF VII is or isn't overrated - that's your opinion.

I'm saying that what you said about the people liking it the most is absolutely false.

Go ahead and post your opinions about games; but don't try to state facts about the people who play them - when you absolutely know nothing about them.

Well NHL 2k8 is the greatest hockey game of all time, but because people couldn't figure out the controls, and because NHL 2008 looked prettier, it was shoved to the back and given "meh" reviews.

Everyone has their views on entertainment, especially in "best of" and "overrated/underrated" discussions. You and I disagree, and so we'll leave it at that.

Difference... I didn't say "everyone"... I said it was shoved to the back because people couldn't figure out controls, and 08 was prettier.

Which is absolutely true. Go back and read the NHL 2k8 reviews and you'll see them chocked full of reviewers who simply couldn't figure out the controls, and in the end didn't give it a fair shot because of that.

Not to mention how crazy people go over how great NHL 08 looked at the time. People were going on about how amazingly realistic it was; and compared it to NHL 2k8's not so advanced graphics. I've seen a lot of people make comments that NHL 08 is better because it looks way better; and not even really talk about the gameplay.

There's a different between stating what is evident in reviews and player comments - and not using terms like "everyone", thus being quite clear that certainly not everyone reacted that way - and using such terms and trying to state baseless, unprovable "facts".

So you can go ahead and put your little kettle back in its cupboard. It's not coming out today.

This argument reminds me of the arguments against using "I" in formal papers. Everyone knows that what you write is your opinion unless otherwise stated, or unless you're citing facts from an actual source.

It's the same thing on a message board. You may have taken that as being stated as a "fact," but it was merely Johnny stating his opinion about the people who like FFVII.

Hey goh, while it seems you have a lot of hate (and underappreciated love), I will agree in large part on a single underrated game...Psychonauts. Sure some of the platforming was very frustrating, but the humor and charm were off the charts.
