I agree, I'm actually pretty much burned out on music games. After I get the Metallica game, I may be done with the genre.

Re: Guitar Hero: Runnin' with the Devil

I don't think music games are going anywhere. They created an audience with GH, and expanded it with Rock Band. Only the hardcore gamers buy these things enough to get tired of them. The bulk of the audience--which is as much of a music loving audience as it is a video game audience--will always have their interests refreshed with DLC and increased immersion.

Most people will ignore the games they are not interested in. I don't know how much growth the music genre will see, since few people are going to buy instruments twice, but the instruments are almost like consoles. They have an install base, and now the music game publishers can feed that base over time, and will see an assortment of hits and misses as does any other genre.

That having been said, I do think Neversoft's strategy is a mistake. They will burn bright but burn out with a section of the audience.

Re: Guitar Hero: Runnin' with the Devil

The DLC is my issue. I love Rock Band, but for me there's been nothing good to download lately. My wife yells at me, "Buy some new songs!" She gets tired of hearing the same songs.

They trickle out a little at a time. They should really open up the flood gates so everyone can have some of what they want. There's a ton of songs I would love that I'm sure most people wouldn't. And vice versa.

I would LOVE to have a ton of VH and Metallica songs to play on RB. But instead I get the Beatles, and more Offspring.

Re: Guitar Hero: Runnin' with the Devil

There is no way this can be a good game unless money is paid.

Wolfie is obviously in over Michael Anthony, fine. I won't ever play bass, but whatever.

How do you do the singers? Gary Charone isn't a problem, but with Sammy and DLR. Both aren't going to do it, and EVH wouldn't allow it. So then you pick one. So let's say it's Roth (Which is my guess, as Sammy probably won't do it anyway especially without Anthony). So it's either VH early years, or they re-record the Sammy songs with DLR, which obviously will suck. You aren't going to have a digital Roth with Sammy's voice piping out.

Based on that, I am saying now that this game ends up being an absolute disaster.

I prefer Rock Band to guitar hero, but a VH version I would buy. The guitar work in VH catalog would be a blast to play.

Re: Guitar Hero: Runnin' with the Devil

It has been confirmed, David Lee Roth only as the lead singer. I like Roth but also like Hagar, this kind of blows chunks for VH fans.

                http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/19570/...ero-Van-Halen/

We were surprised when we received today's press release of the Guitar Hero 2009 Fall line-up that the much rumored Guitar Hero Van Halen wasn't in the list. We contacted Activision to find out if there is a band-centric Guitar Hero game dedicated exclusively to the Van Halen brothers' hard rock band.

The publisher confirmed that Guitar Hero Van Halen is indeed in the works and it is scheduled to arrive some time in the second half of the year. The company also confirmed that the game will definitely cover the David Lee Roth era, featuring the band's greatest hits. We can also expect some guest appearances, including Blink 182, Queens of the Stone Age, Queens, The Offspring, and Weezer.

Re: Guitar Hero: Runnin' with the Devil

                  From Destructoid.com:

Although it’s not been officially announced, we’ve heard of this game called Guitar Hero Van Halen. We can’t be sure it exists, but rumors, retail listings, and German ratings boards seem to indicate that it does. As do the handful of rumored achievements for the Xbox 360 version of the game that Destructoid exclusively got its hands on today.

If they are legitimate (and we have every reason to believe they are), they reveal quite a bit about a game which we previously only knew the name of. Three Van Halen tracks that will be playable are mentioned by name — “Little Guitars,” “Cathedral,” “Spanish Fly,” and the instrumental guitar-gymnastics classic “Eruption.” Real-world locations like West Hollywood, Dallas, London, The Netherlands, Los Angeles, and Rome are also revealed.

In terms of features, it appears the game will be full-band experience, as expected. “Expert+” mode on drums will be making a comeback from Guitar Hero Metallica, as well. One Achievement (”Ouch!”) hints at what we believe could be a new option in the game’s create-a-character, custom tattoos. And finally, Eddie Van Halen’s famous “Frankenstein” guitar (picture above) will be unlockable.

The full list of achievements (minus the secret achievements) can be found after the jump. It’s interesting to note the names of them, which could hint at other playable in-game tracks (i.e. “Running With the Devil,” “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love”). Feel free to speculate away.

We contacted Activision to verify the validity of the achievements and game details, but were told they “don’t comment on rumor and speculation.”

This here shows that some Sammy songs might be in here, meaning that either they will be Live version of Dave singing or re-recorded with Dave's voice.

Guitar Hero: Van Halen officially official

Activision’s Will Kassoy confirms long-rumored next band-centric installment of series will arrive in second half of year; Queen, Weezer, Blink 182, The Offspring, and Queens of the Stone Age also on setlist.

Activision has finally made official what has been widely rumored ever since March 2005. The next band-based Guitar Hero game will focus on Van Halen, the legendary hard rock quartet anchored by guitarist Eddie Van Halen and his drummer brother Alex. From the 1970s to 1990s, the group topped the charts under two different lead singers, David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar. (Sorry, Gary Cherone.)

“You’ve heard about this, maybe some rumors, but I am here to officially announce the title, which is coming out in the second half of this year,” senior vice president of Guitar Hero publishing Will Kassoy told a press event in Los Angeles this week. No platforms were mentioned, but prior band-centric Guitar Hero games have been released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and Wii.

Though he did not name any specific songs, Kassoy promised Guitar Hero: Van Halen would feature “many of the band’s greatest hits.” Such multiplatinum tracks as “Jump,” “Panama,” “Hot for Teacher,” and “Why Can’t This Be Love?” helped the group sell over 56 million albums in the US, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.

I hope this game has all the little extras that the Metallica one does. GH stepped it up with GH Metallica compared to GH Aerosmith, so I hope they keep it going.

Why would they have Hot for Teacher again? I can understand having One in GH Metallica because that was only for guitar/bass in GH 3 but Hot for Teacher is already full band.

                              - There are 25 Van Halen tracks in the game
                              - There'll be "3 signature Eddie Van Halen guitar solos"
                              - There are 19 other bands included on the disc, including Queen, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Blink-182, The Offspring and Weezer. None of whom I associate in the slightest with Van Halen.
                              - It appears only four of the band's all-time roster are making the cut: Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Alex Van Halen and Wolfgang Van Halen

Only 25 songs? Blah! I am a huge Van Halen fan so I'll cave for this, but I am annoyed by the small track list............why are there 19 different bands here almost providing the same amount of songs as VH.

That is awful. I don't like these exclusive band games they're doing, but this one takes the cake. This reeks of Eddie Van Halen's insanity. Not a fitting game for one of the all time great bands.
