For me any single player game like this is not worth a new purchase. Example is Uncharted 2, while a great game it doesnt (IMO) deserve a new purchase if your only interested in single player since its one set story and not much replay value.

Its a good story and has a pretty good length however like I say for most games like this, rent if not playing Multiplayer. At least do the Game Stop free 7 day rental of it.

I can't say it's early purchase worthy but the single player is really well done. I know a few don't like the cutscenes but I am into that sort of thing, so I'm partial. Just in the first chapter there's a scene where you see things going on and Max makes a decision to do something but it takes your help. Without getting into the specifics, I really enjoyed how it played out.

So far the storyline is good and the writing is great. They do a great job of giving Max a really gritty style. From his aged face to his rough voice mixed in with some solid one liners, I really like playing the game through him.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Maybe I'm crazy but I found a lot of replay value in Max Payne 1 and 2 single player. Killing people in slow motion just never gets old to me.

It's funny because I use to clear out a room (In the old MP's) and still not be happy because it didn't look cool enough. I play it almost like its part shooter part John Woo director sim.

i just started the single player. a couple things.....

i started on medium but it seems to easy. im still on chapter 1 though. does anybody else feel the same way or will it get harder as i go along?

i think IGN was spot on for one thing. the game doesnt feel as exciting as Uncharted so far.. for example, the

                  Wait... is there online co-op?

I could definitely use a nice long storyline to go through, not necessarily cut scenes. Not trying to buy a movie here, just enjoy some time to play here and there.

A glance at achievements shows there being 3 difficulty levels past medium and none below so I wouldn't be surprised that it feels easy.

Online coop has already been confirmed as DLC in, I believe, June.

In regards to story mode games, etc, I personally think games like this and Uncharted are WELL worth multiple playthroughs when the story and gameplay are that well done. Play through on normal, then hard, then hardest.

I easily get about 30 hrs out of the single player alone with almost every linear storyline game I buy.

No co-op. I could be mistaken, but I thought I saw somewhere that a coop mode was going be added at a later point as DLC. Anyways I do think the game has some replay value, at least from what I played, in the singe-player. Obviously, you can always play through again on harder difficulties, and there is also a couple of arcade modes. New York Minute, which is a time attack like mode and another to see how high of a score you can rack up.

Game has really started to pick up for me at the stadium level. I still am finding the constant use of effects during cut-scenes to be annoying, and wish the game felt a little more Max Paynish in terms of the other elements outside of gameplay, but overall I am having a good time. I traded in a bunch games when I bought this, and basically paid $2 for the game as a result, so even if I end up being a tad disappointed it isn't a big deal.

I am playing on medium and finding it to be a decent challenge. Have died 4 or 5 times, basically because I was being dumb and spamming bullet dodge too much. Seems like the game will defiantly make you pay if don't play intelligently. Things do defiantly get more challenging after Chapter 1, the stadium level afterward has been a good challenge.

Obviously as you can tell from my other posts I completely agree about the effects during cut-scenes. I understand what they are going for, but it definitely seems overdone.
