The cloud isn't the future, it's now. There have been cloud computing solutions for years now, and Amazon has nicely commoditized it with their EC2 offering. I built my first system with it back in 2007, and that was after it had been industry proven (roughly 2+ years of others testing / providing feedback). There are even open source solutions if you want to build/roll your own cloud for free (other than hardware).

You'll definitely need a fat pipe if it's going to go over a broad band connection. Anyone know what throughput is necessary to push a digital 1080i signal?

I've been reading a lot of articles that say even with a great connection the games aren't looking that good, and there is an noticeable amount of lag, so its not sounding that great atm =/

Wow! Pretty sure you still actually have to pay for the games, but everything else is free? I think I'm going to have to give this a whirl now.

Yeah, you have to pay for the games (and always have an internet connection)...otherwise it's free.

Smart by Onlive, the monthly fee was driving people from even wanting to try it out.

I'm really digging the Arena. Pretty cool to just jump in and out of watching other people play.

Also, the demo system is pretty sweet. It's time limited, though it's the full game. It also doesn't appear to be cumulative, which means I get a fresh 30 minutes if I exit out. For a story-driven game like Arkham or Mafia that may not be so good, but it's awesome for sports games.

I should also point out that my connection hovers around 5 MB down when it's at my best, and the service is holding up pretty well. Graphic quality certainly isn't PS3/360 level, but it's decent. I am getting a good amount of controller lag though, unfortunately.

Even if I only use it for the Arena and demos, this thing could end up being quite a time-killer.

I have no idea where the other topic is (thought it was in the E&T section but search didn't bring anything back) so I'll put this in here...

              http://www.gamesradar.com/download-o...o-batman-free/

You can now download an app for your iPhone/iPad and can use Onlive through it. To put that in context you can play the full game of AC: Revelations on your iPhone instead of just some crappy iPhone version. If you download the app right now you get Lego Batman for free.

If this works out, it would be the death of the console. Games for the PC are just all around better, and can be modded. Why have a console when everything you need could be accomplished with a low end PC.

This would be sweet. I hate having to upgrad video cards.

Because the quality is lacking. Cool idea, my attempt at it left me unimpressed.

Thats why I said if it works out. Love PC gaming, just hate how much the net cost is. I play total War on my gaming PC in all its glory. Thats really the only game I have for the PC and even then, I got 470 hours of gaming into that game. Absolutely love it. So the 1,500 was worth it if I break down enetrtainment cost per hour.

I put together a really nice rig a couple of years ago and its still in good shape, but I will say, it makes me boil to have to spend as much as a console to upgrade my video card if I choose to. But I drool at the thought of easily accessable modable sports games for the PC.

You can't add mods on your local computer? If not, then this is just the same as Xbox live for stock PC games?

The whole reason alot get into PC gaming is because of the mods. They really enhance the games I have played.

It's a streaming thing. I'm pretty sure you don't get any actual files so you can't mod them.

Yeah, the actual game is running on a server somewhere.

I will give it a try, and hopefully it works out. I like the rental aspect of it, and instant gaming.

Sounds really good. I just hope it delivers
