OnLive - Savior of PC gaming?

    http://kotaku.com/5181300/onlive-mak...sis-on-your-tv

If I had a fast internet connection, I'd be on this in a New York minute when this comes out. This could be just what the doctor ordered for PC gaming, and could be a sign of things to come for gaming as a hobby in general.

It could be good for those with super fast connections; but for the rest of us it's absolutely useless.

I don't care what they say, I'll believe they can deliver lag free gaming like this when it happens...

I'm skeptical as well...its going to be interesting to see how it pans out.

They did get decent/quality publishers to sign on to it, which is nice.

When they can solve lag on a LAN and prove it, I'll believe it is possible to do it in the real world. How can they think that they will be able to keep up with you hitting a button, that getting sent back to the server, and then getting back to your screen before the other video data that was already being sent to your screen while you where waiting for the button press video.

It's like the straight up brainchild of Sega Channel....kind of. I like the idea. If it's even remotely solid, I'm definitely going to check it out. Internet needs an upgrade though.......

5 mbps is not fast and is the requirement for the HDTV service. Most cable ISPs are already pushing 7 mbps with the base service.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out. If this is the future of gaming, then it takes care of the one big concern I always had for disc-free distribution: memory.

If we had to dl all our games, no matter how big the harddrive, it would still, eventually, be possible to fill the thing up. Not to mention, that handcuffs how much of the harddrive the devs could use.

With OnLive, this wouldn't be a problem, since everything is streamed.

I'm definitely interested to see how this is received.

Well, if 'the cloud' is the future of computing, and it looks that way (check out The Big Switch), then this is definitely the future of gaming. It makes sense.

                      Sure it is.

And 3MB is about all I can afford here. I'm not paying Charter any more money for a faster speed; I already pay enough, AND I don't get the ****ing speed I'm paying for. I still need to call them and complain.

I didn't see how things like save games work, or user created content and how that is saved. It's almost creepy in a way.

lol i said that yesterday on the Console sub forum for Onlive! Seriously though, if Onlive had never been announced, there is a good chance I would have never remembered Sega Channel for the rest of my life.

This will really take off with people who have Excellent Cable lines or a Fiber optic Line. This is the future of gaming. I would say this is what the model should be for future consoles but that is just silly. Once Onlive Comes out, there really is only limited potential for growth, rather than a family of consoles which will create a newer system once the old one becomes obsolete.

Regardless, Onlive could very well become the Future of Video games. Just imagine how amazing some games will be without the constraints of Hardware requirements. If Madden Ever comes out for Onlive, there really would be no Excuse for every bell and whistle imagined.

                            Bump. This is out. http://www.onlive.com/

Any impressions? I'd try it out if my internet at my current apartment (sublet for the summer) wasn't a terrible 0.5 Mbps down.

Are you sure it went live? The site isn't all that clear, but I don't think the service has fully launched yet. Though I did sign up for some waiting list...

If it can work as advertised, I'll be blown away.
